Any Reason to Cut Transmission Crossmember?

So, I figured it out…Whoever was working on this car before me (Probably a Chevy guy) put the shifter levers in pointing down. Instead of thinking for a second, they decided to cut away at whatever was in the way. Also, if they tried to drive the car this way would have led to a 2-1-4-3 shift pattern, which I think is hilarious.

That pattern can be accommodated by starting at the opposite corner; but he wouldda had a one-off, slow-shifting, pattern,lol.
