Anyone confirm that the Lunati VooDoo cams are .904 lobe width?

Has nothing to do with lobe width. They;re just designed to take advantage of the Chrysler .904 dia lifter. The bigger lifters allow them to grind more agressive cam profiles than the smaller Chevy lifters.

Good, because I intend to order one soon. Now that I remember, the lobes are smaller in width than the lifter.

lead69, read all that, good info.

Getting ready to put a VooDoo in my small block so this was an interesting read for me. Took me forever to decide on a cam and I can DEFINITELY say that the guys from Lunati are much more willing to help you pick a cam if you call them for advice on which one to pick for what you want out of your engine... I hate to say it because I have always been an Edelbrock fan and I still like their engine components but they were a bunch of jerks when I called them just for your further trivial information.

If you call Edelbrock, or Comp Cams for that matter, in most cases, all you will get from them is trivial information...lol.

It's good to know i'll be treated right with Lunati!

I read that thread on the VooDoo cams a couple of months ago when it was first posted and immediately wished I had gotten one of those when I built a new 340 for my '74 Duster last year; instead I had opted for the Comp XE268H. It's been fine, but it sure sounds like I left a few ponies on the table by not getting the Lunati.

As for Harold's previous company Ultradyne, I have one of their solid rollers in one of my other cars and it's performed flawlessly for over ten years now.

You guys are right on the money regarding Edelbrock's customer service, or lack thereof. I even mentioned it to one of their King Sh*t Sales Guys at the Gatornationals about three years ago; he basically told me to go f**k myself. They just don't care. Comp on the otherhand has been nothing but helpful when I have contacted them.

First of all, any cam designed by Harold Brookshire kicks *** in my opinion. I've used several UltraDyne cams in different engines and they all were great. I intend to put a VooDoo cam in my 340 someday when I take out the POS Mopar Perf cam that's in it currently.

Here's a tidbit of info regarding Edelbrock cams. Edelbrock buys them from Camshaft Machine Co, which is owned by Crane. They are the largest cam grinder in the country. They grind cams for OEMs, and countless other aftermarket companies. You can buy a Wolverine cam that has the same specs as an Edelbrock cam for a fraction of the price. Same cam, same grind, just a less colorful box and you don't get the pretty red cam lube. Look closely at the Summit grinds and compare them to Edelbrock's. I'll bet you'll find the same specs from both places.

I was a machinist for 10 years and went to quite a few trade shows. That's how I found out this info.

As far as Edelbrock's tech line, I was fed a bunch of BS regarding their exhaust products for my Brand "X" vehicle. Their exhaust did nothing for performance and just made the car louder, despite their claims it was quiet and would shave 4 tenths of my 1/4 mile ET.

I find most places now of days, if its not for a 350 Chev (yes, they are all that lazy!) or your doing a b13 swap in your Civic, they don't want to talk to you or give you any help at all. Actually, I've gotten my best Mopar advice from a Ford only shop here in Portland, at lease the ower has or had a 1970 Hemi Cuda and have racing Mopar experience on staff.

All I know is what I already stated...I made many calls trying to find out some info on cams before I decided on what I bought and Lunati is the only company that was willing to listen to what I wanted and help me choose the cam foor exactly what I was looking for... AND not only that, the guy that I talked to told me that if I had any questions or feedback on what he recommended that I could call back and ask for him personally... to me, that's impressive and it made me a Holley brand fan from now on. Although as I also stated I still am a fan of edelbrock I will check and see what Holley's lines offer first.

I haven't had to call Lunati for anything but I have had to call Comp a couple of times. I'm not anywhere close to an expert but I knew more than the last tech at Comp I talked too. He reminded me of the guy from India you always get when you call with a problem with a new computer. Doesn't really know much about the product but he has a canned list of things to ask you.

I recently replaced a Comp XE274 with a Lunati 60404 which is a little bigger. I figured the Lunati might give up a little torque since it is 4* bigger but man was I wrong. I'ts more torquey and pulls harder throughout the entire range. I haven't had it to the track since there all closed but I bet it shaved off 2-3 tenths. I'ts like a whole different animal with the Lunati. Lunati has got my business from now on.

It's partly prejudice towards popular brands but I think it's mainly ignorance. The people your asking questions of dont know the answere and want to cover up thier own stupidity so as not to get thier stupid *** fired.I find it's the same thing when I go to the local jobber parts store.Only one guy knows what he's doing(my good pal also) but thats because he was a mechanic for 15 years and is fairly intelligent as well. Most of these retarts answering phones know only what thier computer/catalogue tells them. They may not even have any wrench time!Or it's limited at best.

I guess ignorance is bliss...
