John, do yourself a favor, while the heads are getting worked..Get the right springs for the cam you are choosing. What I mean is, choose a cam after the chambers are cc'd, but dont have them finish assembled until you have the cam you want, then have the same manufacturer supply springs, and your head guy set them up properly. That's how it should have happend, although many guys put springs on the heads, then choose a cam saying "they are good for .500 lift, so they will work fine..." That leads to problems down the road, when the aggressive cam profile trashes the springs, or the retainers hit, or the engine valve floats in the middle of its power band.

if caps arent tight in their registers you need to get it line bored ,,,,,,,,,and paralell decked to equalize cylinder to clyinder volume would be a good idea too

Do you really READ the posts your answering? The last post on this topic was THREE YEARS AGO.

Old news Pal....

yeah, time to find another up to date forum I guess

We're about to send you packing as it is.... That's THE most intelligent post you've made so far.

Go to MoParts... they'd LOVE to have you. 8)

I have a friend of mine who builds about 10 - 12 motors a year and he has told me that the oil manufactures have changed the formulas and it effects break in. He now breakes them in on a run in stand and uses 15-40 oil diesel oil because that oil still has that additive that was removed when the oil was reformulated.

Thanks for your input. Between the time I had this issue (3 years ago...) it's come to everyone's attention that the oil companies have deleted the Zinc additive in their formulas. Comp Cams, and several others... have been marketing an additive just for the purpose. I plan on breaking in this engine I built within the next month and I'll be sure to use either Pennzoil racing oil (which has the additive) or a comparable oil and an additive.

BTW: Sweet `Cuda you have. Those rims look PERECT on that car!
