Share with us what $ value the seller is hoping to get for it. Why shoot in the dark when there’s a light switch on the wall that has power to it and there’s a working bulb in the socket that the switch is connected to.

Value of donor body car plus value of GTS parts at 50% of retail.

Sounds like the GTS stuff was put on another body.

Yes. Not hiding that. This all happened in the 80's when finding this stuff in N.E. and elsewhere wasn't easy as it is today. Bought original GTS sitting in the dirt with weeds growing up thru the floorboards. Drive train freshened with a valve job and running condition .A Pick hammer blew through front and rear frames rails, nothing left of the floors and trunk.I was also younger and dumber. lol . Swapped body (same color) drove 100k until 2001 then restored 3 years ago.
I might pass on this as the seller feels his rides worth around 22,000 . Just trying to figure a price to negotiate trade and some cash.

I would rather have the Dart .
Do you have pics of the Ford ?

Not yet but I will tomorrow .I still have my 500" RB Hardtop. No longer have a garage . The wife never wants the top down :BangHead: 1 will have to go eventually. I'm getting on in years and always wanted a coupe. You only live once.

So its NOT a 68 GTS, it's a rebody so its worth whatever the /6 car or 318 was worth, plus a bit extra for the GTS parts swapped on. And if its titled as the original GTS, I wouldn't even look twice at it.

Woah, $22k for a non pedigree Dart with a 340 drivetrain that still needs quite bit of work? That’s super rich.

I would be at 12k and cash, but you could start higher like 18k and see if he bites or comes back.

It may not be worth what a #s matching restored car is but it would sell in a heartbeat for a fair amount.
How many Dart convertibles are still around ? One of the best looking convertibles of the 60s IMO .
I applaud the effort to resurect a classic. .
I am not much into customs so I would much rather have the Dart.

so what VIN is the car using? the GTS or the donor car?
My question EXACTLY. It is not legal to take the VIN off of one car and put it on another.
That being said, I would give it a value of $15K max. It does look nice, but it has (most likely) the VIN from another car on it, and it is a clone.

Here's my 2 cents...

  1. If the car is registered as the GTS vin you have issues if you sell it, good reason to keep it.
  2. If it is registered as the donor car no problem selling it but it is now a "tribute" car and the value is no where near what a real GTS would bring.
  3. As for the swap. If that's what you want go for it regardless of pricing.
  4. IMHO the dart is way cooler than the Ford. And in my HS yearbook senior quote I said I was going to have a 34 Ford some day.
  5. There were about 4000 connverts made each of the 3 years, of that maybe 1/2 are still in existence, of that 1/2 might still be on the road. 12,000/2=6000, 6000/2= 3000. I know where 6 are that are still on the road and 2 that are parts cars. That's not counting the ones here on FABO. So as for rare... You can get repo 34 Ford body's and parts, no challenge on that.
  6. As for top up or down, I'm 60, mine stays down 24/7, I live in Colorado and drive it every month of the year. If the wife won't go with you go without her!
Stepping off my soap box.

If the Ford is a kit car ..as you said "gel coat body".. I would say keep the dart because it's actually a real car #'s or not ...as the other one is a kit car.

Sounds like he made a GTS tribute/clone with the parts he got. People have and sell them here all the time.

I think a running driving decent looking 68 Dart GTS clone is going to sell a lot more than $12K in the Northeast. Sounds like it’s got all the GTS parts. And has 340, correct manifolds, aluminum heads, intake…

90% of the buyers out there today could give a rats *** if it rebodied or a tribute car . If they even know what that means... the other 2-10% are looking for concourse numbers matching.
Whats the difference between rebodying a car or replacing every panel with AMD ?

my issue would be is it titled as a gts or the replacement body? if as the gts it could open up all kinds of legal issues. if its titled as the the replacement body then awesome. cool convertible that has gts parts on it.

Well I have a good friend that knows all about the car and wants it. I may just sell it to him and then buy the coupe. At least I'd have a chance on getting it back some day.

It’s tough to tell from those pictures. The outside ones are poor for telling the condition of car. Probably because that wasn’t the intention of those pictures in the first place.

The best quality picture is the engine compartment. And it’s just dirty from driving and I think there’s reflections from trees that make it look worse than it is. A one hour wipe down with simple green, and it would look 50% better or more.

Sounds like $20K to $30K private sale. Huge range cause of picture deal.

These trade deals are very hard to judge. It’s like two people trading $10 bills each claiming they are worth $15. So they trade and each goes away thinking they have a $10 bill that’s worth $15 bucks.

It’s like you are not trading the claimed value of each item. Just trading the difference. Really hard in this case.

To me its worth what someone values all the parts at, anything over that is salesmanship.
Its a '68 so really NO vin # stamped on body, BUT would it have body sequence numbers stamped??????? and IF no fender tag to verify BSN....well it guess its a nice hot rod worth ???????/ OK so I'm no help!

It’s a 68 GT Conv cloned into a GTS.

Look at the prices of 68 GT conv. Most of them have upgraded motors from starting life as a /6 or 273-2bbl.

look around here and see how many people have GTS/Swinger hood on their non GTS/swinger 67-69 Darts. Many even have the hoods on 67’s.

Another than than the hood, you add exterior emblems and door panel emblems and that will clone a 68 GT into a GTS after you remove the GT side molding. And then the drivetrain changes as necessary.

Nice looking GTS clone vert with a 340 should bring at least high teens in this market.
