Batten W2 Alloy Heads

-
I'd go with the Batten heads if I was building a race only engine as you'll get the most benefit in the upper rpm range. Personally, I don't think they're the best bet for a street-strip car.
I used a set of Batten's W2 econo iron heads on my old 340 Dart build years ago - they flowed great and did sing a pretty song on the top end.
Are you sure they have titanium valves? Or titanium valve retainers?

'Oldmanmopar' - your W2 motor is gorgeous, love the cast valve covers on it.

You have the heads for $1800. They are not on the engine running. The intake and rocker setup will cost more than the price difference between RPMs and the Battens. They are more head than you need, and handy. But you need a bit more to get it up and running. If it were me I'd say buy some RPMs, have a local shop check the valve job and gasket match, and run them. Any intake, any rocker...

I have rectangular port Diamond heads on my 410. I'm the guy Tony was talking about. With a 284/.528 Solid purple shaft, The car was a pig at Top Gun in Fallon, NV (4000'). I changed to a hydraulic with 232 int and 237 ex, .520 lift, tight 103 lobe centers and a dual plane. I have not run it yet, but my butt tell me that I leaves harder with 3.23's that it did before with 4.30's. At last years Hot August Nites, I talked to Herb McCandles who help Chrysler develop the W2 heads and he said that when they developed small blocks for Pro Stock in the 70's, rec port heads would not work on automatics. Too much volume and very little velosity. Take it for what it's worth!

Herb McCandless told me that rec port W2's don't work on automatic trans car because they have great volume and low velosity. Autotrans need torque unless you have a 6000 stall converter. Great for the street/strip car huh? My diamond W2's would only work if I put in smaller cam and a dual plane. It leaves harder with 3.23's now that it did before with 4.30's

Here is W5 gaskets over Indy and W2 over Indy. The indys are the same ports as Batten. I would agree if you are putting these on a standard stroke340 you would lose a little on the bottom, but if you put them on a large displacement motor 400 up you will not be disapointed. The bigger the motor the more air you need. These heads do not like carburation under 850 cfm. I my self would use these in a heart beat but to each his own, to make it short put them on here forsale and see how long they last. I You paint them orange they look like a stock head but the flow like and Indy. Get an X block and bolt these on and you have what looks to be a 318 with a 4 bbl.

To be direct here, the .100 to .400 lift numbers on those battens are weak.
So you need to lift the valve a lot more to put the mid lift where the head flows the most/more=.500 to .700

Ported j heads flow better in the .100 to .400 by an average 10cfm

every 5 cfm=10 hp theoretically

Those heads need an aggressive solid roller around.680 lift [to be as streetable as possible yet make some use of the head flow]

too bad they flow so good at sky high lifts meanwhile flowing stock'ish from .100-.400

Here are my new RHS Indy X 's heads i got from mike @ MRL Prefomance. for 1350 out the door with some porting done to them... great set of heads for the price. And will work with 1.6 rockers. and running a lunati cam 405

Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 284/292
Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 242/252
Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .533/.552
with 1.6 rockers

So what became of the Batten alloy heads? Is Douglas340 going to use them or are they for sale? I'm very interested in them if they are available as I'm building an all out race motor, not a street/strip motor. I have three 59 degree closed chamber iron race W2's and one 48 degree iron race W2 but all four have not been ported. I'm building a 422 to 427 inch motor.

They came in 2 port sizes IIRC. Small runner and large runner. The small runner I hve on a shelf. Theports are standard sized at a gasket match to the Fel-Pro's 340/360 gasket.

Those batten heads will make a S/B sing a mighty song. More displacement the better.
i got those batten heads and going to put them on my 400ci sb mopar with a f1 prcharger from the supercharger store we r looking to make from 900-1000hp on pump gas streetable.

I have an un cut intake for those heads. Rectangular large port batten intake
