Big Block Conversion $$$

-
If you are only going for 425 HP I would get the 360. Like you said. Less weight and easier to work on. If you want a 400 just put a 4in crank in the 360. Thats what I would do any way.

The big block is easier to work on , the distributor is closer to the front of the car :bootysha:

i was debating between a 408 stroker small block or a 451 stroker big block...and after weighing all the parts, and debating what you have, there is not much of a price difference. I was gonig to have to swap the rad, tranny, headers, rear and driveshaft on both of them because of what i had, so the extra price of the conversion kit wasn't too much to swallow. Just make sure you get proper headers...that was the biggest cluster **** for my swap. But now it is 98% done....(they are never done) i am a happy camper

Well...I checked out the engines...yes, there was another one there that he had forgot about (!). Both are 400's. One is only a short block (looks like an older engine)..and the newer one has everything but the intake. $200 for either one....:toothy10: But while I was looking at them..he said "Why don't you put a SB in it?? I have a good one over here..." I checked it out, and its a 75 360, complete minus carb. 80,000 miles on it, and he said he would take $300 for it. :angry7: So.....choices, choices... The BB has alot of potential.....plus it's 40 more cubes. The SB is less weight, and easier to work on. (This IS a street car) My goal is a solid 425 h.p. Hmmm.....?

Offer him $400 for both the 400 & the 360. I bet he'll take it. Then you can decide before they disappear and probably sell whichever one you do not want for the same $400. You'll end up with a free core to start your build...

Total cost to build this car $6000

Don't laugh at the flames the car runs 12.23 on the motor and with 100hp of juice it ran a 11.59 et.
Cars called the spare parts car.I'm running Schumcher headers

Wow!

What size motor?
Are those spacers between the heads and intake?

I wrote another post detailing the cost just waiting for a moderator to aprove of itThe engine is a 440 and the $6000 cost doesn't include the stage 6 heads. The spacer is what is needed on these heads to run an rb manifold on them.We haven't run it at the track since we put them on but it raised the comp from 8.5 to 10.1,we lost 50 lbs off the front end. With these heads we should be in the mid 11's.

thats a load of crap. especially since your starting with a 6 cyl.

the big block is a bolt in swap. biggest decision you will have to make is the headders. you will be surprised how close the two builds will be in price. and on top of that there is nothing like a big block a-body.
