Bolt access hole in axle

My axles are aftermarket but they dont have the hole in them to line up with the backing plate nuts. Would drilling one be an option here? Can barely get a wrench on them and not enough room for socket and properly torque them.
 
That should be fine since most hubs have them already.
 
I sure as heck wouldn't want to do it with a hand drill.

Some things to think about

Not knowing what you have for bits, you could just drill a "small" hole to clear an extension, and put the socket on after

You can drill some impressive holes with a hole saw, but you need a SLOW speed (I do NOT mean a typical 3/8 drill!!) and LOTS of cutting oil

I once drilled some 2" holes in 1/2" plate on a "the slowest speed" press

Yes, took awhile. I used WD 40, drilled 4 holes, and I think I used more than one can.
 
or get a wrench like the one in the picture. they are only a few bucks and you dont have to drill or cut anything.
