Which way do you turn the Star Adjusters for driver and passenger sides to release them from the drum.:eek:ops:
I am going to replace my Shoes next week and I know how hard they are to get off so I want to plan ahead and ask stupid quetions. These simple things tend to cost me money later if I don't ask.

1973 Dart Swinger, /6 automatic car.

Car NOT for sale, this is from when I bought it.

Frankly I've never bothered to learn this. Anytime I've done a brake job, and I've done many in my lifetime, I just wiggle one drum loose, and turn the adjuster one way or the other. It won't take more than 4 or 5 strokes, if that, to tell

On some self adjusters, you can not even turn them "loose" without getting in there with a wire hook/ etc to pull the ratchet away from the star wheel.

You have a shop manual? See below:

Use small screwdriver (or welding wire)to push adjusting lever off star wheel.

Apply adjuster tool to star wheel and move the tool down to loosen brakes.

IE:

Toward ground to loosen brakes.

Toward sky to tighten brakes.

in case someone skims this without thinking about it (as i've been stupid enough to do when i'm in a hurry :tard:), that's for doing it from the rear access on the backing plate with the drum on the car
