Just a question can you ascertain the build date from the last 6 numbers of the VIN?

Thanks
Stu.

Build dates on the data plates are approximate.
If you looked at a bunch of data plates for VIN's near yours you might see a pattern, again approximate.

Scheduled Build Dates are on the Data Plate, Broadcast Sheet, IBM cards, Door Tag (later cars), Body Stamping (earlier cars 68 and older)

So, when you say on the body stamping for 68 and older, is that the number on the radiator support and/or the trunk lip? I'm trying to ascertain the scheduled build date on my 65 Dart GT. Thanks, Al

I'll have to look at my notes for 65 to see what the template was but yes those numbers.

".........can you ascertain the build date from the last 6 numbers of the VIN?......"

I have the same question about my 68 Valiant. I just basically want to see if I can determine if mine was built before or after 1 Jan 68. According to the VIN the car was built at Hamtramck.

When I bought it there was no data plate and the original engine, trans and rear end were long gone. I was wondering if the number on the trunk lip (which is not a partial VIN) might be able to be decoded for an approximate date?

Anyway any help would be appreciated.

For whatever it's worth. In my estimation your only hope of getting marginally close to your build date is to find other '68 Valiant vin tags with build dates and a vin close to your vin. Ex; your last 6 are 123456 You find a '68 Valiant whose vin is 123999 with a build date of 9/26/67, then you will have an approximate date for yours.

Thanks A56, I'd kind of thought of that (I have a 1968 Valiant parts car with the data plate) but it was built in Los Angeles. I'm not use to the "newer" cars, but in the mid 50s, Mopar assigned blocks of vin numbers to the different assembly plants, I thought that probably held true into the 60s.

The 68 body code does not have the SPD in it like the earlier years.
