Here's a chance to spend some of my money.8)

This is what I have to work with:

66 Dart
Fresh 340
8 3/4 suregrip with 3:23
904 with reverse manual valve body
"J" heads that flow 320 at 600
KB 107 pistons (9.8 to 1 I believe)
Weiand xcellerator intake

I guess I need a cam, convertor, and carb. I will be putting all this together in the next 6 months and would appreciate your ideas and input.
This car will be driven on the highway, cruise nights and sometimes to work but will also see ALOT of runs down the track.

I have some questions for you if you dont mind. What size rear tires (how tall) will you be running on the street and strip? What are your ET goals at the strip? Is that intake a single plane? I'm not too familiar with it.

Track car that see's the street to make trouble as often as possible huh?

Sorry if this doesn't sit well, but with a 3.23 gear and a single plane intake, I see a problem. Small tires? (Diameter wise?)

Cam; 1st choice,; http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=LUN-60430&autoview=sku
2nd choice; http://store.summitracing.com/partd...or LUN~60431 or LUN~60432&Ntk=&rsview=sku&Ns=

Carb; Heres a list of how I'd spend your money, he he he.
Avenger 770 w/electric choke, good for all around performance, then a few 750 HP series carbs. w/& wihtout vacuum secondary.http://store.summitracing.com/Compare.asp?N=700+0&rsview=sku&RemoveSKU=LUN-60430

Converter; Talk with John Cope. I'm sure he can help you out quite well. http://www.coperacingtrans.com/

Dericks, that Weiand is a single plane intake and is a cause of concern. If his tires stay low on the diamenter, they'll need to be wide. It's the only way he'll get a decent release of power and moving down the road with a 340.

If any thing take and load your pistons and rods the way they would sit in engine and take a baby scale perferably electronic and make them all weigh the same it will smooth out the performance.

Yup. 8)
I would like to dip into the 11's.

It is a possibility that at a later date I will find another chunk for the 8 3/4 with some more suitable track gears and just swap them out before I go, but that is down the road and I would like to build it around the 3.23's.

The intake can always be sold and a good dual plane picked up. RPM Airgap?

I will be adding subframe connectors and relocating the rear springs at a minimum. I don't know yet how large a tire I can get in there until I do, but I am looking for consistancy so it will be as tall and as wide as I can fit.

What do I have to do to the heads to run a cam over .480 lift?
Is there a way to check to see if its been done already?

The valves are 2.02 and 1.80

Thanks fellas!

11's!!! A goal to shoot for! Excellent. That makes this alot easier, even more so if you have a decent gear set to deal with. You can pop in the 3.23's to go places, but another gear set is used for track/trouble causeing. It's all part of the package and balanceing of it.

For a rear end build to the 11's, S/S springs and snubber set correctly geared with 4.30's. Tires approx. 28 or less inch diameter as wide as you can get'em.

If your heads are done to 650 lift, then why would you fret on 480? The heads should be fully ported at this point I would think. Use them with the Weiand.
I have no exper. with the Weiand, but that single plane should be good enuff for 11's. Since you have it, use it.

Couple it togethger with a 10-1 or better ratio and a cam of approx; 250 duration @ .050 and big tubes headers. Lighten the car up.

This should do it.

I made a huge mistake. The heads flow 230 at .600 (not 320). I have a lysdexic moment from time to time. :-D

How much does that change my cam?

Do the valve guides have to be cut down for lifts over .480?

Yea, thats huge. Get the heads fully ported. Without porting the heads, your not doing it. I do ot beileve the guides have to be cut for that lift. Not until after .500 But allways check.

Leave the heads stock and you should be able to touch 12's.

Ok, here's what we have come up with in discussions elsewhere.
Does anyone see a problem here or have anything to add?

Recap:

2900 lb car
340 engine
KB 10:1 pistons
Comp Xtreme energy .525/525 lift .231/237 duration
904 trannie
8 3/4 3:23 suregrip
Decent "J" heads (flow 230 at .600)
TTI or Dougs headers with "X" pipe
RPM Airgap dual plane
Windage tray
MSD Ignition
SS springs with pinion snubber
Spring relocator kit
Subframe connectors.
The fattest tallest tires I can fit in there.

I guess I need to call about a convertor and I still need to pick a carb.

You see anything I forgot to think about or am missing?

I know the gearing is not ideal but hopefully I can touch 11.9 with it.

320 at 6000 rpm from a set of j heads? jeez thats more than most aftermarket heads ,advise, get a big true roller cam lol

LOL, 320 CFM with welding!!!!!!!
I'd go hooker super comp (1-3/4 min.) , more head prep & a big roller and cut the bologna out.
