Hi all,

I have a NOS 1968 340 camshaft (p/n 2899205). Advertised duration is 276/284, lift is .444/.453.

I spoke to an engine builder today and he wanted to know what it's duration is @.050", and it's centerline. After a search of the web I can't find any more specs, can anyone here help me?

Best bet is to profile it and get a picture of the lobe. I'm just guessing but I'd bet it's around 215°@.050. It's a good cam, but old design. There are much better ones out there. That would be a good cam for a 318 build tho.

Thanks 360z28

He said it needed to be around [email protected] and 114 lobe separation (not centerline, sorry), so it seems to be on the money.

Moper, you said it's an old design and there's better cams out there. It is for a mild 318 build, should I look for something else? I picked it up for a good price (Mopar stuff isn't cheap Down Under), and figured that if it's a factory spec it must me alright.

Robert.

Hello, I did the removal of my 273 Hipo 235 hp of 1965 and I want to know which camchaft I removed from the engine, here is the number written on the camshaft, # 246340, THANKS DGÉ.

Geez guys. Lets not make this complicated for this fella. Are there "better more modern" grinds? Yes. Are you running a points race and looking for every ounce of power for your combination? "I just bet not". Go with what you have. You know, a bird in the hand and all that? It will be fine. Probably sound really good too.

I wonder which cam that is? There was a thread here months ago where they were looking for a oem 340 cam to measure so it could be duplicated.

[/ QUOTE]

Thank you but I do not want to know if better than that or that but I just want to know if this camshaft is correct for the 273 or not, I want to know if stock cam or changed to another better or not better, thank you DGÉ.

J'ai oublié de dire que le 273 je ne l'avais pas essayé avant de faire le largage, alors je veux savoir que c'est l'arbre à cames que j'ai dans le moteur, merci DGÉ.

Lol, 10 yr old thread guys.

DGE, what are you asking? You have the part # what else do you need? In English please lol.

IDK, but
All I could find is that it was supposed to be .415/.425 lift and seems to compare to an early 360 2bbl cam.
The 360-2bbl cam,IIRC, was 252/260/112, but I honestly don't recall the 273-4bbl specs.

And the 4 barrel specs changed a little between 65 and 66. @65dartcharger would know I bet.

My crane 340 blueprint cam iir was 219/224
114
I knew this would get confusing. This is an old thread (2009) started about the 340 cam. DGE responded to the thread but is asking about his 65 273 cam.

Here's your 273 cam specs:
Cam specs:
65 2 barrel 395/405 240/240
65 4 barrel 415/425 248/248
66 4 barrel 420/430 248/248

Isky E4 425/425 260/260
216/216 @ .050
Comp 270s 468/468 270/270
224/224 @ .050

And just to compare the Comp 270:

340 4 barrel 430/444 268/276
68 340 4 speed 444/453 276/284

That Comp 270 is pretty big for the 273. I'm surprised at how mild it idles.

273 Build
