Carbon fiber steering column build.

I’m rebuilding the car and doing what I can to customize it and make it faster. I built this column. Here is the bottom mount.

then I made the upper mount.

I used 1.5” OD x 1.25” ID. I had to home out the ends for the bearing.

I started the hole with my step bit. Once I had the whole started I used a forstner bit to finish it.

Looks great. Just an FYI, here something to always remember with carbon fiber. High tech version of rock paper scissors. Carbon fiber VS aluminum, the carbon fiber always wins. Carbon fiber corrodes aluminum. This is why aircraft using carbon fiber parts use stainless steel or titanium fasteners to hold it together. Not that you have an aircraft, although I'm sure it flies. It's something to be mindful of with more and more carbon fiber goodies your making.

No fasteners go into the carbon. The carbon tube is over 1/8” thick and clamped in two positions.
