I just picked up a 64 plymouth valiant. It has a 1 barrel carter bbs carb and push button auto. The leak is at the top accelerator plunger (bowl vent valve). Is there a gasket or something missing? Rebuilt carb, but not by me bought it this way? Can any slant six 1 barrel work with the push button tranny? New to the push button and not sure if the linkages will work? Thanks

readjust the float level, or replace the needle and seat.

You could also have too much fuel pressure .

Welcome and thank you for jumping in 8)
Yes the float could be stuck or need adjusted and or the needle and seat is dry or is dirty and not closing and letting the gas pore out the top.

Hey thanks, that's what happening gas coming right out the top at the bowl vent valve. Car sat for a while, carb was rebuilt but I it has old gas maybe causing the float or plunger to stick. Going to remove the carb and clean it up. Is there any kind of seal at the top of the vent bowl valve? I have a small washer at the top and when you lift it you can see the spring. Does the plunger come up and seal this hole (vent bowl vent)? Just want to make sure I'm not missing any parts.

No, it is pretty much just open.
This was a sixty's invention and they didn't care about wasting gas.
You could try spraying a generous amount of carb medic in that top hole.

IT is a carter carb so you can just take the top of the bowl off without removing the carb.
Just be careful you don't loose any screws

Dirty, dirty gas+ dirty dirty carb. Drained tank and flushed it out, cleaned fuel lines with air. Years of junk in there. Ran off a jerry can after cleaning carb and new fuel pump and filter, no leaks...planning to remove tank and run a fuel cell in trunk anyway. Replaced my tank in my 72 a couple of years ago with new fuel lines and fuel pump. Amazing what you find in a old steel gas tank after almost 40 years.
