Gents, and laides if we have some.
Im putting togeather a stout streeter in a 73 Cuda and I'm down to selecting a solid roller cam and lifters, it will mostly be street driven with a few blasts down the strip, looking to get late 500 to early 600 HP (flywheel) with a 727 trans and 3.55 gears.

Engine specs to date.
Early 360 block bored 0.030"
Oil mods done including dual oil feed inputs from the remote filter, one back into the block at the factory filter location, one into the RH front lifter galley above No1 main feed to provide oiling from both ends of the block(similar to R Block)
Internally balanced Eagle forged 4.00" crank with Hughes girdle
Scat Forged H beam rods
SRP forged reverse dome pistons
W2 Race closed chamber heads (53cc, with pistons and heads I should be right around 11.5 CR. We have 98 pump gas here ) 2.08/1.6, HS 1.6 roller rockers, port and bowl work to inclrease flow etc.
Victor intake
FAST XFI TBI

Soooo, throw some numbers at me please, I dont want it to be a pig to drive, Im happy to run a vacuum pump for brakes if needed, I'd like good broard power from like 2500-6800, remember, its a streeter mostly.

Thanks and look forward to some intersting thoughts.

It's my understanding that Comps RX lobe is not as hard on the valve train as some of the other lobes. The cam for my 434 has these lobes. My 408 was in the 550hp range with a flat solid, when I tore it down to freshen it I found odd main and cam bearing wear that I attribute to block flex. Hopefully the girdle will stiffen your block.

BTW I know a couple gm guys that tried hydraulic rollers, neither would rpm like they were supposed to so they went back to solid rollers.

check out all mikes builds on here from MRL performance .....has some just like yours ....huge horsepower ....but the most important thing huge torque with great driveability for the street .....he uses lunati cams ....there voodoo line mostly ....i do also ....you will not find any better in a off the shelf non custom built cam ....904 lifter designed too ...

mike used the smallest voodoo solid roller number 40200730 ..231/237 @ 50 ....555/566 lift...with a 1.5 rocker in a build with the small mopar same as eddy's alum head ..750 carb...... 10 to 1....air gap intake ....it made 570 foot pounds of torque from 41-4450 ...525 at 2500 ...525 hp at 5400 with that little cam ....you build could use a bigger cam like his last monster build ...king of the hill small block ...582 hp / 577 tq 239/243 @50 550/560 .....you could use the lunati 40200731 - 237/243 @50 566/578 ...on a 110/106 ...2500-6600 power curve..could put you over the 600 number easy with your better heads

bullet also does make a great cam using ultra dyne lobes ....talk with tim at bullet who worked for harold berkshire who owned ultra dyne cams...harold was the best cam designer in the country imoa....he did r@d work for lunati and came up with the voodoo line of cams ...bullet bought the ultra dyne molds when they closed up and tim went to work for them ....i do not know if he is still there as the last custom cam i had him do was back in 2008....give then your build and the 40200731 specs and see what they say ...if you can get tim he will do you right ....very smart man

Thanks guys, all good info and appreciate it, Justin, the block has a partial hardblock fill to try and combat block flex, I really like Mikes roller lifters and intend on buying a set and had asked him about a cam but he only gave me a price. He maybe a little pissed at me cause I had intended on having him build an engine for me however our south pacific peso exchange rate tanked and made the build cost prohibitive sadly. it took a $10K build to $15K overnight! thats my EFI right there.
Michael, heads are long valve W2's with 1.6's, will be doing our best for lift.

if anything else pops into your thoughs I'm keen to hear it, thanks again

Greg

Go and have a chat with Pete at Horsepower Engineering.
He has just finished building mine. edelbrock heads and SFT cam...it still made 565hp with real bad extractors. With a solid roller and better pipes it probably should have made 600
I posted my build on here somewhere.

Tell me about your heads flow abilities. Do you have the heads flow numbers yet?

Rumblefish, don't have the final numbers yet but my head guy is saying 300

Lunati 40200734 will make 600HP+ with your build. ANd it will work with the efi. Great cam.

Thanks Mike, thats about the cam spec I thought (at the upper limit of duration) as I need this to be easy to drive, need to be able to just hop in it and run it down the interstate for an hour then cruise etc.
Moper, will have them soonish, working on them at the moment, will have flow bench numbers once complete, they currently have 2.02's but they have had seats re-cut and are sitting a little low and now have shitty tip sweep (will go to 2.08's, corrected lengths and so on), so, a little work to do before I can get some hard numbers.

Well if you want it to be tamer the 733 will make good power and if your heads flow really good, the 732 will get you in the 550 range. The 734 is a bit of a nasty beast until it gets the heat in it but it will make 600+.

Yep, definitely like the MRL lifters, particularly for the street. I'll be getting a set as well but want to stick with the non offset version, for some reason I just have it in my head to go to the centred version, what heads are you running L4?

I got a set of stg 4 ported SP commando magnum heads from RyanJ @ Shady Dell. On a side note DONT ever use Shady Dell! I have the Indy magnum manifold to go with it

Told him i wasnt in a hurry for them. Paid him up front, 4 years later i got my shitty dell heads after chasing him for 3.5 years.
His work isnt worth waiting for, below average finish on the heads

Any up dates on this mill?

FWIW, I'll be doing a similar build with the 733. Wondering what was chosen and how it worked.

I could be off a little here, but I am thinking 3:55 gears may be a little steep to take advantage of 600 hp. Still fast, but a touch sluggish.

I have very similar parts in my build that you have. W2 race heads (51cc chambers), reverse dome pistons for 11:1 static CR (8:1 dynamic), Victor W2 intake, Eagle 4" forged rotating assy, etc. I have a set of MRL roller lifters and a custom comp cam roller 266/272 @.050, .645 lift, 106 LSA. I don't know what the hp is but it pulls my all steel, full interior bench seat car with exhaust and air filter through the quarter in the high 10's. Motor spins to 7200 rpm.

Magnum dart, yes I agree 3:55 are not the best however it's driven a lot on the interstate hence the choice, Clint, that's cool, if I can do a 10.99 once I'll be happy, I don't want to have to put a cage in it or other things due to its speed,
