Chrysler brings back the Dodge Dart

-
Just got this email from Dodge today...

Rick,

The All-New 2013 Dodge Dart, coming Q2 2012, brings features and technology never before found in a compact car. From its rich Nappa leather seating surfaces to its class-leading technology and exceptional quality, the all-new Dodge Dart presents a groundbreaking and stylish choice in the compact car market. And it all starts at $15,995!¹

Take a closer look at how the all-new Dodge Dart is changing the way people think about compact cars.

I guess someone needs to tell their PR department that Q2 has been over for 5 days now. I keep looking at the front line of the local Dodge dealer longing for the day I can check one out for myself...

I was thinking the same thing, get the Dart to the dealers already!!!

I had a couple of Chrysler rentals recently. I was so unimpressed with the quality and craftsmanship that I don't see myself considering a Chrysler product in the near future. Maybe after they get some more Italian styling and fit and finish they will be worth their sticker price.

I had a GM Malibu last week in Hawaii and it was the biggest piece of hard plastic crap I have ever driven. No character what so ever and rattled all over the place with only 4k miles on it.

I'd prefer they get it there right rather than get it there now.

I can agree with that. After Ford's 2011 Explorer release debacle it's obviously cheaper for them to do it right the first time rather than play catch up for 3 model years trying to eliminate "features" that required the owner to by a 10mm wrench so they could disconnect their battery and reboot their computer system on a regular basis.:eek:ops:

Daddy works for Chrysler Corp? It's Detroit after all...

There was 3 on ebay. And you can go in to the dodge web site and build one. Dads already beem looking.

Looked at a new Dart today. Too big, doesn't have enough engine yet, and the orange peel in the paint looked horrible to me. Seemed much worse than most factory paint jobs.

Told the salesmen that I already own two Darts, a '60 and a '70... He responded that his first car was a '70 Dart 340 :D

I to went to peek at one, didn't even drive it, sales guy was, well, a long string of explitives. That orange peel paint was on every vehicle in the showroom, even a 50K+ truck. Sad that that passes for acceptable today, the paint job on my 88 Escort (a long time ago) was better as was my 90 Civic (R.I.P. @ 347,000 miles), 05 Civic daily driver, hell even the 06 Kia the better half drives looks better. If I got my 74 Dart back from paint looking even close to that bad there would be an episode of Cops being filmed...

I test drove the red 1.4l turbo 6 speed.I was very happy with the car overall. The rear seat has decent room for a compact and the 8.5" radio had some nice features. The 1.4L turbo with 39 mpg was peppy but the 6 speed's 1st gear
was low to me,had to shift real quick but I was driving easy and if you laid into it you could get so good rpm/turbo action going real quick.Over all I liked the car and at 20,000 for that package was a good price.

Looked at the $18k Rallye turbo model, didn't have time to drive it. But it looked very nice. I was happy it was the size it is (very close in size to the Avenger sitting next to it) since it would be for my wife, myself, and baby. The paint on the red one I saw looked great (and looks great on my '11 Ram 1500). I don't care about the turbo, we'd get the base model with base engine, auto anyway (wives sometimes don't understand "fun"). Anyway, overall, I thought it was very nice, and one may very well be our next car next year.

I saw a Dart when I purchased my new Ram. It's meh. I can't get over their PR push for how it's a "completely original car", yet has a hand me down name and is a reincarnation of a friggin neon!

My dad's boss drove up the other day while we were buffing the car, and I was lamenting over my sub-par paint job. Then, I saw that his brand new Toyota was almost as orange-peeled as my Duster, and felt just a little better about myself.

Question, though, guys. How does one go about ordering one of these, and how much does that boost the price? is the cost on the dodge website final?

My wife's looking for a new car, and frankly... Even though I'm not a huge fan of the looks, I'm not a huge fan of /most/ new cars looks, and this one seems to have a whole lot of bang for buck, feature wise.

All the local dealerships only have manuals in though. Just curious, really. Thanks.

Thank the American consumer who want sofa seats, 10 cup holders, 45 air bags, navigation, all on a stretched Fiat platform instead of the smaller Eurospec chassis.

Same reasons that the Challenger is a pig applies to the new Dart.

All the new high tech, light weight materials don't mean crap when you are just piling more **** in the vehicle. :eek:ops:

Seeing how most manufacturers are using water base paints,Im wondering if the orange peel is related to this product?

Be nice to see some good looking Dodge SUV's to compete with Ford's styling.

Ford is kicking *** with their new styling and I'm seriously looking at the new explorer sports and Flex"s as the Durango don't impress me much looks wise.

ab, The CONSUMER should be the one who decides what products he or she wants. Although, in your mind the government should dictate what we drive. The govt knows best - in the liberal mind - classic!

But that /is/ what most consumers want. We represent a /very/ small fraction.

You are arguing with the exact point that I made. The CONSUMER wanted big fat, comfy cars, and that's what they got.

New Explorer is the biggest POS on the planet. Another case of the consumer wanting a POS and willing to pay $50k for the privilege of driving a POS... And I RUN AN EXPLORER WEBSITE.

Like you many are impressed by the new Explorers LOOKS. There is NOTHING to back up the looks... The technology SUCKS. From "My Ford Touch" to the front valence that falls off when your too low front end makes contact with a parking curb, to the lack of low range, lack of a "real" spare tire, etc... Want to blame that on the gubmermint too??

Sure is comfy though...
