Closed dragstrips

Here is one near where I grew in Bullitt County KY, we used to ride our bikes on it when we were kids after it was closed. Bottom photo is it today.

New track to be built 60 miles East near Hudson Colorado.
I'll believe when I see it, seems very hard to get one approved. I think Grand Junction still runs some events. They have been trying to build one near Farmington, NM., but it keeps getting postponed.

Lions Dragstrip time slips for my 66 Hemi Satelite. Friend of family I bought it from got it in 1969.

Sea level track 5 miles from Port of Los Angeles.

10 passes that day 10/31/1971 Halloween!

Track closed Dec 1972.

Shipping container logistics facility now. The Port brings in huge money to the city.

Fremont Dragstrip/Baylands Raceway Park. We had family friends in Fremont. Numerous summer nights my buddy and I would put up a tarp and drag out the sleeping bags so we could listen to the racing from his back yard :D
Doh ! See post # 81, can't watch UCSD vs. Michigan and . . .

I raced at West Hampton from 71 until late 87 when I moved off the Island and NY National from 72 until 77 after getting banned for telling manager Ed Eaton off which he deserved times ten. I raced at Etown at the NHRA Summer Nats and divisional WDRS from 92 until 2003 or so and Atco at the WDRS divisionals back in the 90s. I still have almost all of my times slips from Hampton and National.

I'll have to think on it. Would be nice if there were activities at Irwindale to attend afterwards
I told BA I'm watching weather as last year was purportedly miserable and I wasn't there.
Spent enough time surveying in cold, wet, windy weather when other fish bailed lol.

 I was an apprentice workin' for Kasler on the 2 freeway in Glendale. Bad forecast one day, lots of rain predicted. All the journeymen went home by choice. Supervisor wanted to keep one loader operator around just in case, the apprentice. I sat on that 930 with no cab wrapped in my slicker all day. Saw the rain pouring all around the jobsite. I never even got a drop on me :BangHead::rofl:

Worked for Andreasen Engineering in Pomona in business from '50's 2010-2014, Pomona/Claremont Colleges and L.A. County Fairgrounds/Fairplex were some of their clients. I could hear drags going from miles away = awesome !

When I bought my place here it was 190 miles one way, could do that going but never back ( 155-178-184/Weedpatch Highway, 58-99-I5-210 to White ) 3 hours exactly door to door @ 3:30 a.m.The work at that point was part to full time, recently divorced and a recent home purchase I did a 7 hour trip to work 4 hours to keep the job rolling and handle it.

At 1 point in those lean times I was working for 3 firms part-time, Pomona, Vanuys, and Bakersfield. The miles and schedule was brutal but managed to pay the bills barely. The stories are plentiful lol.

In the end I got the dream job at Isabella Dam and got my oldest as an Apprentice working with me for 3 years, 1 stop sign 6 minutes, 6 miles from home. Job was fn brutal in many ways but made a real man out of my 26 year old lol.

I interesting to hear Westhampton mentioned .. going back quite a few years I failed to qualify for the NED Bracket Finals at my home track... Island Dragway ...a racer from Long Island who raced at Island was friendly with the Westhampton owners and found out that they couldn't get enough racers to represent their track at the Bracket Finals at US 13 in Delaware so for a few dollars you could " buy in "' to the race and be part of their team. I did and ran the Bracket Finals representing their track with out ever being to the track. A little bit of a shady deal but I had fun !... I still miss ETown and Atco very much.. my part time job occasionally takes me past the Englishtown exit on Rte 18 and I pick up supplies a few miles away from the track even though its been a few years now I still get a little sad when in the area remembering racing there and the Mopar Atlantic Nationals / Mopars at Etown events .
