Coach Controls Wiring Harness?

One more question for you! They list the height of the box as 2.5". I'm guessing that is just the can. How tall would you say the main body is?

I don't think it would interfere with the clutch, since there's good space, but would probably interfere with the floor switch for the brights. Plus, I'm reluctant to put holes into the kick panel since it is actually in really nice condition.

So with your comments that it is a high quality kit - I think if I can figure out something for a mounting area for the panel, I'll pull the trigger.

Anyone else mount a large fuse panel/power box in their Barracuda, and if so, where?

I've shaved my cowl vent and no longer have those fresh air doors below my dash that you have. That's right where I think I'll put my junction box, so my options are a bit different than yours.

I don't think it's that's tall. I'm out of town...get home in a couple days. I'll take some measurements for you

Thanks! I like the idea of possibly doing something with that fresh air box. Did you re-engineer it to still be usable, or cap it off completely?
 
The aftermarket AC system in getting doesn't use fresh air. That's primarily the reason I shaved the cowl. Right now i just have those cicrcle holes. Single i sealed the topside I dint think it'll matter if I leave the bottom ports open.

Nice job! That is some fine fabrication.

And that is an impressive amount of stuff in the cowl.

I'm starting to do projects now (slowly). Have a lot of the interior out, pulled the steering wheel and center console tonight, and will next be yanking out the heater box to repair, refresh, and put in a new core.

When I have that out, I'll clean my cowl from underneath. Can't wait to see what's in mine - although I can see the edge of the big ole mouse nest on the driver side through the cowl vent.

This is my first time doing this sort of stuff, so I'm learning as I go. I spent FOREVER cleaning it out...then doused with with rust proofing stuff. It's easier to clean out if you remove this fresh ir ducts...and just leave the circle ports open.

The height to to top of the knurled bolts that hold the cover on is about 2 3/16" The height to the top of the cover is about 1 7/8" . Kind of a bad angle, but you get the gist. It's nowhere near 2.5"

I emailed coach last night. I was confused as to which circuits were powered through relay...and which weren't. The got back to me this morning. Basically, everything that isn't listed as "constant" on the table on the diagram they gave me goes through a relay.

Constant Items:
Brake
Hazards
Clk/Dome
SW Bat
Power Locks

That's it. EVERYTHING else goes through a relay.
 
Thanks for the measurements and info on the circuits. Family was sick, so not much car time over the weekend. I'm going to pull the steering column for some rework and will hopefully be able to find a suitable mounting point with more stuff out of my way.

I've been communicating with Coach Controls about various questions as I lay out my wiring plan and all the other things that depend on and coordinate with it (ignition and alternator upgrades, new lighting, etc.) They are very helpful on the phone and by email.

How goes your rewiring project?

That's good to hear about them being responsive. I haven't started wiring it yet. I'm just about to the assembly stage. Waiting on transmission to get finished, then motor gets dropped in and real progress commences. It'll be a bit before I'm wiring in earnest.
 
I've been watching this thread, because I'm likely to put one of these harnesses in a father/son 73 duster project. Has anyone had the chance to start or complete an install? Since we'll have the stock heater only system, I'm curious of where it might fit under the dash.

I just ordered a Coupe-23-L (long) from JEGS tonight. As mentioned at the beginning of this thread, JEGS had the Coupe-23 for $395 and the long version for $410 for a couple of months. Then it went back up to $499 and $510 about a month ago. I've been watching the prices, and tonight I saw another price drop to $366.99 for the Coupe-23 and $380.99 for the Coupe-23-L . It will be a few months before I'm ready to install, but I had to buy it with the lower price.

I received my Coupe-23-L in the mail today. I was excited to open it up and take a look at the future project. The very large laminated wiring diagram is very clear to read and should make the wiring process go smoother. I was surprised about one thing, though. All of the relays in the fuse/relay box are all soldered in. That means if one goes bad, that circuit is dead. So, forgive me if this is a dumb question, but what would be the average lifespan of a relay? Should I be less worried than I am?

The life of relays varies. The mechanical life of opening and closing without load could be a million. At rated load current, resistive load, perhaps 100,000, but, resistive load, is not typical. With an inductive loads, or incandescent lamp loads, life will be much less. If inductive loads such as motors, A/C clutch, without snubbing or diode suppression life may be very short... To answer the question better, the relay part number, and load information is required. DC switching with inductive loads off is harder than most think, there may be kick-back voltages that exceed relay voltage rating, without snubbing. Incandescent loads have high inrush current, when switched on, at many times typical load current.
 
KitCarlson thanks for the response. I suspected there wasn't a cut-n-dry answer. Based on your response it's quite possible we could see a failure for one of the light relays or others on a daily driver. I guess it is a good thing the fuse/relay box has a lifetime warranty.

Anybody actually install yet the CC harness yet? I'm finally finalizing wiring decisions after a hiatus from any real effort on the car and need to finally sort that. Going to do ignition, alternator, and wiring harness as one big project. I noticed that the CC harness does not have a dedicated backup light circuit listed. From one of you purchasers, am I wrong there? If not, I guess I'd have to use any other unused switched circuit for it.

Well, let the **** show commence. Wiring underway.....

I've decided to connect the simple things prior to mounding he box in my car. Get all I can without craning around under my dash. Little studying to figure out how I'm going to go from Mopar steering column to GM plug...but I think I have it figured out. Trying to make things a clean and tidy as possible. We'll see. The directions, thus far, are pretty freaking awesome. That little box is more than just a fuse panel, it's a control center.
