I didn't want to mess up "magnumdust" thread.
So i thought i would start this one.

How much did the converter cost, who made it, and, how close was it to the required stall.
Did they get it on the first try?

All start it
$150 converter, P.R.T.C.
Request was a 3 to 3200 stall converter. ....2200 then re did (for free) stalled 2800.

Called PTC converters talked to Tim.Told him I wanted 4200 converter.Got it foot braked to 3000 rpm flashed to 4200.Dead on the money.$500.00 exactly what I wanted,Kevin.

PTC is the best for the money thats what I use.
And they stand behind their work.

I wanted to be at or near 4000 stall on mine and Coan hit it out of the park, the first time. Then of course I changed the camshaft and messed up the whole shooting match. Once I get the fuel system fully capable, I may need to have Coan tighten the converter a little, but we'll see.

i had good luck with dynamics and ultimate they done what they were susposed to do first time

Dynamic cost me $600.

They told me it was gonna flash at 3800 and cruise the street like a stock converter and it did just that first time around.

Infact my car sold 3 converters for dynamic. Friends that drove my car before and after the converter couldn't believe that's the only thing I did to the car. Lol. They ordered theirs shortly after

3000 stall PTC converter behind my 325 HP 318...its works extremely well...i paid $300 for it.

turbo action paid 250 dollars for 8 inch 3800 series flashes to 4800 rpm....bought it back in 1983...still using it today...only thing it ever done to it was install chromemoly snout on it....

Thanks every one.

so if I'm willing to spend at least $500 on a converter, and proper info, it will be what i ask...........

Or is there other brand that have not been so good?

Kevin give me you definition of foot brake stall
and Flashed stall?

There is one suggestion in here that I will never use.

The ones I will use are primarily ATI, T/A, A-1. Lenny/Ultimate and Dynamic build a good piece too.

The more info you can provide to the supplier, usually the better the outcome.

Build brake pressure bring rpm up to where it will hold against brakes.Release brakes nail it and watch tach go to 4200 rpm.Kevin.Call ptc they will ask all the questions.

Tony, was that a trans brake converter? Is it being used with a trans brake?

Only reason I ask is T/A's 8" converters go up BIG TIME in price from a non trans brake 8" to a trans brake 8"...close to 1k for the trans brake one

Just for the record, although I don't have any results, I have spoken with pretty much every manufacturer in this thread and even more, and they all offer similar suggestions, parts, and prices...I think its all a matter of who you feel most comfortable with and who will still stand behind the product after the sale

back in 1983 there were no transbrake...so no it is not...i have 2 more TA converter in use and they are not transbrake converter either...

i use a two step which hold the starting line rpm around 3000 rpm..no different then foot braking and then the converter is allowed to flash upon launch.

ok, that makes sense.

I ordered a trans brake for the car, and was just wondering if anyone is using a non brake converter with a trans that uses a brake to launch..I would imagine its not pretty lol

And that's why i started this Thread!
I'm surprised, that almost every one was happy with there converters.
Thought i would hear some story's............guess not.

Well i will add a story of my own. My first converter i lay the fins down flat in a matter of a month. Wasn't using a transmission cooler. Just the one in the bottom of the radiator. burned it up good. :violent2: had to start with a fresh 11" core. He ask me if i had put the aftermarket cooler on......I said yeeess:^o
He built me a new one and it has lasted some 10 years WITH A LARGE TRANSMISSION COOLER.
