I have started fabbing the motor and transmission mounts for the 360/727 combo going in my '66 and it seems the motor was originally offset to the right a little. I don't have any manifolds yet and don't want to have a "do over" when I finally locate some. There is alot of conflicting info about manifolds as to what will work and what won't, whats everybody else using? And if someone could give the the C/L of the crank between the frame rails I'd appricate it.

Needed: V8 drag link and exhaust manifolds!

I used the Schumacher mounts for my 360 swap and they worked perfect. A 727 is a very tight fit in the trans tunnel on an early a body. I'm not saying it wont fit, but you will have to modify the tunnel to get it in there. For a 360, the 273 manifolds are a little restrictive. The Spitfire headers are not too expensive and they work pretty well. I have Dougs headers on my Dart and they are expensive but they work excellent.

Thanks for the reply Dartman, like I said I'm fabing my own mounts using the ones out of the truck I pulled the motor out of. Just section the steel mounts til I got a close fit, just want to make sure of the side to side fit with the crank before I weld them up. Headers are a little out of my budget right now.

According to the TTI header instructions for early A bodies the center line of the engine is 5/8" to the right. From the center of the crankshaft to the top of the K member is 4 3/4".

I believe the factory set the centerline 2" to the right.

PM me for exhaust manifolds and centerlink.

When I made the motor mounts to drop a BB in my 66, I bolted the trans in. Then, with the car level, I dropped a plum line from the pinion yoke to the ground, from the trans tailshaft to the ground and from the front of the motor (c@ crank centerline) to the ground. I moved the motor over until all three plum lines were in perfect alignment (checked with another string line).

The ending measurement ended up being 1 1/4 to the pass side, which coincidentally was the pinion offset of my Dana 60.

Before you put the 727 tranny in there, take a good sized hammer and peen the mating line of the firewall and floor pans (pinch weld I believe) towards the front or rear of the vehicle - I've had best luck flattening it forwards. If you don't do this, the bell of the tranny will hit the protruding metal of the pinch weld. If I remember correctly, it needs to be flattened for about 10" on either side of center.
