Damn Milodon. Check your oil pans

-
Called Milodon and talked to someone about my issues today and he said they have never heard of any issues with this pan. (He should check out the Summit reviews to start). He ask if I could email him some pictures to look at tomorrow. Factory in California but must quit on pa time. So yes I sent him pictures then went ahead and cut out the front tray. Lol for an oil pan he said never had any changes done it sure looks different to me. I’m supposed to call back tomorrow afternoon

I wonder if Milodon sources out these pans to different vendors that actually make them?
Your old pan has one style of baffles. Your new pan has a different style of baffles. But I have the same pan sitting on a shelf for two or three years and these baffles are different again. They are not the same as either of yours, although they still appear to sit lower similar to your old one.

At least yours is notched for the pickup and they lowered the front one right.

Well I called Tom at Milodon at 3pm PA time as he requested. He didn’t get a chance to check my pictures out as he said he was working in the shop. He said he would reach out to me later in the day. If not I will call him tomorrow. I picked up a nice piece of steel last night a Tractor Supply and cut it to fit the front piece today. The sides had a gap because of the way they leave a flange in the inside of the pan. I welded it in and although not pretty filled the gap to help retain oil while braking on the top end. I also welded the overlay that was in the new pan but not the old pan that was under the plate when I took it out. I test fitted it and everything clears now. I even tried a oil dipstick and you can feel it skipping off the edge of the front plate and into the sump. That will work fine. Time to throw some gaskets on it and button up
This short block build. Time for some finish head and intake work.

Something tells me your pan came from the wrong factory in China and ended up with a Milodon sticker on it.

It’s a shame to have to do that to a new pan. Probably still had “New Pan” smell!

That's just shocking on Milodon's behalf, you would expect them to show some interest and atleast look at the photos you sent them, Milodon certainly don't care or want to resolve the issue, they should have sent you a new correct pan on them.

It's not just Milodon, John. Can anyone see what is wrong with this out of production Moroso pan? I'll show what it should look like in the next post.

FABO won't let me upload the next photo, so I'll have to try later.

with all the work you've done, you need to replace that milodon sticker with something like this

I gave up on those pans and now i purchase the Moroso deep sump 8 quart pan and cut a 1.75 band out out of it.. Then weld it up and use the milodon pickup tube. This is simple and easy and makes engine swaps easy. No modifications to the k member is required.

I have rack steering in my duster and Strange struts so my only other issue up till now were my 1 7/8 Hedmen headers. I reran two or three tubes to address this issue. If I don’t get the response I want I will be switching companies too.

Yes, they welded the trap door baffle with the 45 degree in the wrong side. I cant get the other pics I have to upload. Keeps giving me an security error message.

I’m guessing over the year’s I’ve bought at least 5-6 (340) and (360) Milodon oil pans and never had an issue. Well I guess an engineer must have had some spare time on his hands and decided to reengineer their oil pans. What an idiot move. First off they lowered the windage towards the crank, forgot to clearance for the pickup tube and even made it worse by moving it into the sump areas further. Take a look at the notch I had to grind out for the pickup tube. Then once it cleared the front rods hit the tray because they lowered it too. I tried to ballpeen clearance it but I’m hooking up the torches to get it hot enough to do major mods. 300.00 oil pan and a day plus lost. View attachment 1715710833View attachment 1715710834

Lol! Engineers are the bane of my existence. The brainiacs shouldn't be allowed to pick up a pencil, or even look at autocad, solidworks, whatever until they spend at least six months in the shop building the stuff they are supposed to design. The dummies only think of the individual part, not the complete aircraft, or whatever system it is.

Well for now I’m for once not blaming an Engineer for this because Tom told me no changes were made. Looks like a case of cheap labor but hopefully he has a good reason. The pan cost me 280.00 and probably cost him 100.00-140.00 max, probably less. I expect a new pan for free, nothing less will satisfy me. I will call again later today.

Well I’m not impressed with Tom or Milodon right now. Three days and he hasn’t even looked at the pictures yet. And today comes the first of two lies. First lie was he said he would look at the pictures and get back to me yesterday as he has been stuck in the shop all day. Today he said he hasn’t had a chance to check out the pictures because he was stuck behind the desk for two days. Hmmmm that made sense. Now he says he’s working over today and will check them out for sure. I said I’ll call you tomorrow.

Send the photos straight to his phone.

The number I have is a business number so it’s probably not a cell
Phone. He has a business email I sent them to. He should be able to see their mess real easy on a desktop.

Ohh he doesn’t know who he’s dealing with. Lol. By Friday I’ll be asking for his boss.
Any chance the Milodon pan with the issue is a counterfeit part. The PRI magazine recently had an article on that. Aftermarket and hot rod parts are plagued with that problem. That does not explain the lack of action by the Milodon person that you are working with.
