I picked up an a body D60 with 4:88 gears and I want to change the gears to a more streetable gear (3:54 or 3:73). Who has the best prices on Richmond gears and master rebuild kits for the axle and trac loc? It's a late 60's B body axle narrowed for an a body. I also want to keep the adjustable style bearings. What is the flat bracket for on the PS tube for in the pic? E brake support?

Looks like maybe for a bracket to hold that brake line down?

I would try Cass at Dr Diff. Keep in mind with it being a 4:88 the carrier may not work with a lower numerical gear due to ring gear thicknesses.

They guy I bought it from said get the gears for a 4 series case and it won't require shimming. He doesn't like shimming them if he doesn't have to.

Yup. I think from 3.54 to 4.10 is one case and 4.56 on up is another. I THINK that's right. Call Cass like DuBob says. That will eliminate any mis info.

spacer ring, most dana 60's I have ever seen with 4.56 and lower gear sets have a spacer between the carrier and the ring gear with longer bolts. Been awhile but when I rebuilt my B body 60 cheapest parts were from jeff's bronco graveyard. Been awhile and don't know how good prices are now.

If you want to run 3.73 you can remove spacer and get standard length ring gear bolts.

Rusty you are correct but that carrier is a rare bird. most of the time a spacer is used.

Bracket is probably a place for the emergency cable tab to attach.

I have a 3.73 gearset, new 30 spline trac lock and a bearing kit that I bought a while back and I am not going to use it. Give me a few days to dig it out of the garage, take pictures and put a price together.

Yep.

You won't be putting 3.54's on a 4 series case. There is a 3 & 4 series gear that I know of in 4.10's. Nothing 3.73 or 3.54, you'll need a 3 series case. The spacer is to put 4 series gears on a 3 series carrier.

Take the cover off and see if there is a spacer on your carrier. If so, you have a 3 series carrier that you need.

pull axle also before you buy rebuild kit and see if axles are 16/23/30 or 35 spline. If bearings look good I would run them.
