DANGEROUS PRODUCT = Moog Ball Joints

I've emailed them along about part numbers and country of origin. I don't give a **** what specs they sent or how much they inspect them, if they're made in China, I'm not giving the commies my money.
 
I have a couple sets of Moog lowers for B bodies that I've had since the eighties.... I know they are of the quality that built Moogs reputation...
 
I thought they were in Canada too, but looks like US.
Going by their list(2009 date) they don't carry upper BJ K704.
Or lower bj K783 ?
@moparmat2000 which ones did you order? Looking for our 67 cuda, factory front disc, sbp.
73-76 LBP disc brake upper and lower. Uppers are an XRF K772 dont remember the numbers on the lowers. I wanted to upgrade to larger bolt pattern and easier to find parts I had locally.
 
The oval track racing industry uses thousands of the 727 lowers each year..
But we use an aftermarket low friction upper and lower for the most part.
 
The XRF ball joints are made in Taiwan.

I'll actually use Taiwan stuff if it looks ok. Taiwan, the Republic of China, is actually different from China, the Peoples Republic of China. They still aren't top tier but they are consistently mid tier (in my opinion).

And they're not out to kill us.

According to the woman who works there that answered the phone, all of their ball joints are made in Taiwan. Supposed to be very good quality though.
 
Well I for one have been a front end alignment guy for 20 years, last was 15 years ago but still so alot of suspension repairs, just don't have access to an alignment rack these days.
I've installed lots and lots of Moog, never a problem yet, I for one ain't gonna switch to some unknown brand. I have never heard of any XRF suspension parts. I'll wait for you guys to be the guinea pigs. I'll stick with what has worked for me since the 80s and that has been Moog.
Back in the day I couldn't stand mcquay Norris. They were at Max allowable spec for slop in parts as soon as they were installed out of the box.
If I can I scout eBay for old dusty boxes of Moog Spicer or TRW when I need front end parts for anything I do here on my 2 post lift at home

15 years ago moog was still okay.

these days not so much.

i had client that insisted on moog being used for his small bolt pattern front end rebuild. so i ordered up six of everything. on the upper ball joints four of the six were acceptable, on the lowers two were. with the lower bushings one of the six was within spec. i ordered four more and two were acceptable.

their offset upper bushings are still very good and that's all i run. the bump stops are perfectly fine as well, but everything else the QC is out the window.

I'll wait for you guys to be the guinea pigs.
mevotech supreme ball joints are very decent. i've installed a ton of them and not had a lick of problems. delco gold is decent, definitely more hit than miss. proforged makes good stuff, i mostly use their lower bushings these days. dorman made in the usa is decent as well if you can find it.
 
The reason I went with XRF is the fact that they are not retail box store parts. You cant buy them normally over the counter. I found 1 supplier in Michigan that would. The reason they are not normally heard of is they are typically service garage jobber parts. I dont think a service garage wants to put joints in a car, and have them fail in a year. It looks bad.

I read the reviews on these. One was from a guy who works in the canadian oil fields. Has an F350. The OEM joints were done for at about 60K. He had his service garage install XRF brand joints. After that he logged 200K on the odometer and no issues. I doubt any one of us are going to be driving like this with any of these cars.

The other thing is specific quality standards they expect in the manufacturing. What i have read was that they randomly pull parts off the assembly line and take them apart to inspect for certain tolerances. The thing is, the chinese and Taiwanese will make you whatever you want to the specifications and materials you want. MOOG has unfortunately cut corners and lowered their standards within the last 10 years or so. Until i see otherwise, i will never buy another MOOG suspension product.

As far as XRF goes, i have no dog in this hunt. I am going by reviews of the product. The F350 pounding the **** out of these for 200K miles in the Alberta oil sands and them still being nice and tight is enough of a review for me. I like to do jobs like that only 1 time.

i went XRF because of a recommendation here after the brand new bad moog ball joint issue. at the time 2018 or so the only place i could find them was on ebay. been very happy with them since i installed them. unlike the moog junk putting the XRF ball joints in was a one and done.. :)

Well that's pretty bad when you have to order multiples 6 of the same part, just to get 1 or 2 that are in spec. That shows that their quality sucks.
 
I've got new upper and lower ball joints that I purchased on eBay back in 2010 in a front end rebuild kit. Don't know the brand, but they seem to be very good quality. The balls are tight, and I see no plastic anywhere on the joint when I move the ball. Is there a way to determine if they are the type with plastic in them? The uppers are installed in the arms, properly torqued and painted, so I'd rather not go through that again, but I will not use them if I know they are defective. Any way of telling before they go into the car?
