IT GETS BETTER :)

I know how it feels, though... I have had my car 10 years now! I bought it in high school, and only drove it a few miles before tearing it apart....It hasn't ran in nearly 10 years.. Now I have a wife and daughter... but i get a little done, here and there, when I can. The wife nags from time to time, but I just say "hey, at least I don't hunt and fish and buy new guns and clothes etc. I just have this one major hobby!"

Wow......great advice from every angle, from our great members !!

My advice....make your car run as good as possible and drive it. Use your money for necesities and living expenses. Hopefully one day things will turn around.

True car people will appreciate your car, the idiots f""k em. Hold your head high and be proud of what you have.

By know means am I a rich man. I scratched and clawed for everything I have.
I don't drink or do drugs....sure helps.
I built about as close to a trailer queen 70 dart as there is. I also have a 74 dart which is original, patina, cruiser. Nothing fancy, just an old parot nose cruiser.
Guess what car I like to drive ? Yep the 74. It's got character. Its about attitude.Hopefully you will be able to appreciate what you have, and things will get better.

I just bought a 62 valiant 2 door that needs about everything except the engine, but I figure if I keep at it sooner or later (more likely later) I'll be driving a car with more character than all the new junk put together !

Alot of us are in the same boat and beleave me thats a big boat. You've kept that car from the crusher. Way to go. :salut:

I know how you feel my friend. My hours were cut at work, our house needs major work and the moneys tight.Ive had my 72 Duster since 2008,and Ive only done one thing at a time.I dont have a garage or anyone to help me either and last summer,by myself I had the most terrible of a time swapping the motor in it and trying to manuever the cherry picker on gravel in 90+ degree heat and getting eaten by mosquitos, and it was very frustrating not to have help doing it.This year,im in the same dilema,no garage, just had to do the bodywork outside stripping the paint with a stripping machine(buffer)sanding and blocking by hand,my little compressor cant power large air tools, and a black & decker DA electric sander, and right now as I type, after 3 days of rain,im pretty sure surface rust is forming on it under the tarp which i know it will sand off easily but still frustrating as hell.I still have to fix a tiny rust hole on the floor, how im going to do this without a welder,I have no clue,I'll figure something out.I wish many nights I had a shop or a garage so I couldve done the bodywork better, and sometimes im a little envious when I see the members here that have really nice shops/garages ,they are very lucky but oh well, I have to use what I have.So yeah, its very frustrating, but please dont give up!!It takes alot of hard work to get it accomplished.Find something cheap you can do to it for now until you have the funds and energy to do the bigger things. This is why I didnt completely dismantle my Duster.I was afraid if I did,It would never get done,so its a rolling project, not by any means a complete resto. After paint, ill move on to finding bigger gears and disk brakes and suspension, after that,it will be interior,al the while, ill still be able to enjoy the car instead of it rotting

On another note, when you describe people looking at your car and laughing at it. Do they have one. I have had several people look at my car and compare it to others and I hear all the yibbity yibbity, I just look at them and smile and ask in a gentle tone "where is yours".

Most cars really aren't perfect and most people don't live in the world of Barrett-Jackson...enjoy your car and don't worry what other folks think.

Life is too short...and a nice car won't get you into Heaven.

Paul

Build your car your way, on your own time, and as your budget allows.
Screw everyone else if they don't like it.
Some inspiration i got when i was younger was from a guy who built his cars from the ground up all by himself. He did engines, transmissions, paint and body, everything himself. The only limiting factor he had was that he was in a wheelchair and did not have any use of his legs. He built all sorts of ramps and stands to allow him to work on these cars. He did excellent work, not perfect, and he was happy with that.
He built primarily Datsun 240 and 260Z's. He drove them all.
Bottom line is, you can do what you set out to do if you put your mind to it and have patience....
My 2 cents.
Tom.

How many times have I been to a car show and someone tells me everything I did wrong to the car just to find out they don't have one.

64x2 everyone is right. Between my wife fussin at me and making me come here has made me realize how lucky I am to have friends here,no matter what my problems are there is a huge support system here.

Thanks everyone...I am lucky and feel much better than I did the other day...thanks again everyone...
