distributor question

How did you see what advance mech it has?? I didn't even get the link to open.

I'm looking into making my own springs. I can't find anything close to what I need for a proper curve.
Firstly the guy who sells them "Ricks Mopars" appears to be Rick Ehrenberg and many years ago I remember the threads on Moparts on the issue of trying to get a decent advance curve from a Mallory was nearly impossible.

Moparts dizzy thread

If you look at the exploded view of the Dizzy it shows what looks like the weights that comes with the original OEM Mopar distributers. The Early Mallory Dizzies that have the YL advance weights look like Mopar weights or at least the same. I like the look of the early Mallory Dizzies and have a few but the problem is I can usually only find them without the Vac Adv.

I've started to adapt a YL advance mech to a later style Mallory Housing but still need to finish the upper part of the unit. Its a bit of a mix and match scenario to be able to make it work as the heights change so that affects what button will work.

Then there's the availability of the springs for the Mopar/YL advance too.....

I've had excellent results with a 55Plus yo Mopar distributor, a Pick-up that was already ancient when I installed it, an old Orange box, and a custom tune.
Parts are readily available, and I have a crateful of used parts. ANY Mopar ECU will plug in and get you going.
I did eventually replace the Orange box with a Jacobs Dial-back unit, which is still going strong.
My Big yellow Accel Super Coil was new in about 2002.
I used to carry spare parts but, the car is rarely more than 25/30 miles from home, so, eventually, I emptied the trunk.

Basically the same thing I did, using an old cleaned up stock distributor from the days of F-body cop cars, a Mr. Gasket spring kit, and new pickup and vac canister from rock auto. Reading about failures stopped my shopping for a new unit.

Made by Ningbo of China. Originally sold mostly by Skip White Performance of TN on ebay. Amazing they can make them for the $45 I paid, plus $20 for an e-core coil. I bought a spare ignition module, since prudent to carry one. Main issue I've read is of an early shaft bushing failure, apparently due to no initial lube. Eventually crankcase splash oils it, but pour a little down the shaft for startup. The multi-finger pickup, akin to later GM, seems much better than OE Mopar since should account for shaft wobble as the bushing wears.

If I add EFI to my small-block which can command spark timing, I've thought of changing to the GM 8-pin module which allows that (2nd connector). It wouldn't fit under that cap, without cutting the cap, or would mount the module elsewhere.

Last time I looked, you could still get a reman mopar electronic distributor on ebay. 30-3890

Still better to find a stock original distributor blow it apart and rebuild it. New ignition pickup, new advance can some different springs, maybe weld up the slots to limit centrifugal advance, depending on what you're going for, stab it in and done.
