I'm finally back at reassembling the Valiant. As I bought the car in pieces I'm a little fuzzy on what hardware I need to bolt the hinges to the door frame. All I have is some bolts that look to be all the same size. Some of the holes are just large square holes. What other hardware is required? Thanks.

sound like the braket that hold the nut and give you more serface to support the door is missing. if you just have square hole. it is loos so you can adjust the door. it might have drop to the bottom of the door.

The door should have threaded plates top and bottom for all the bolts. It could have fallen out or maybe was removed when you stripped the door? The hinges have a square hole toward the front on the body side of the hinge. It takes a bolt with a big washer. The pillars have two bolts going through the hinge into the pillar and four bolts that go from the inside of the car into the hinge. The lower hinge pillar has two square holes but there is nothing in the inside as the bolts come through those holes from the inside and then into the door. Mount the hinges onto the door in as central a spot as you can. Then mount the door w/hinges onto the car but only tighten the two forward bolts untill you get everything lined up (top, bottom, right, left, in, out). Then tighten the rest and install the fenders.

Thanks guys. I found some bolts with larger washers in the pile. I think I had tried it with the wrong bolts. I was going to mount the hinges to the door frame first and then mount the door. Is it easier the other way round?

Thats how I do it. Bolt hinges on door then mount door.:love7: Then when your done having your way with it. Bolt the door on:-D

I like to mount the hinges on the door first, then the whole assy. onto the car. That way you can just push the door shut and latched while you install the front two hinge bolts. It makes it easier to do by yourself and helps the alignment process.
