I am looking to build my 68 Barracuda Coupe with a 383 4 speed to race in either E/Stock or F/Stock. From what I can tell my car falls into the E/Stock class, I think. Anyway, what I am wondering is, does anyone else run in the Stock classes?
I am looking for a "blueprint" on how to build the car itself, I have an engine builder who will help me with the engine side of things I just wanted to know if anyone has any websites that give guidelines for the do's and don'ts of building the car itself. I am a tech inspector at our local drag strip and have read through the rule book and understand what they require but I am not familar with the reading between the lines, if you know what I mean. Our track is run as ET handicapped racing so there are no Stock or Super Stock racers around here for me to ask these questions.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Gary

A Division 6 guy I see, I am too. The best thing to do is built it per the rule book. I have met a lot of stock and super stock guys and most are great people but one thing is for sure. "trade" secrets are just not given out because the competition is so tight.

not looking for "trade" secrets just common everyday things like for example in the rule book under the heading Interior/Upolstery- Must have full factory type upholstery. Can I use Aluminium Door panels if I fabricate them to "look" like stock door panels?

You could put factory type upholstery on aluminum skins as opposed to cardboard skins but that would serve as no advantage. NHRA's intention is for the car to look "stock" on the inside and outside and not a race car. Bare aluminum door panels would not be allowed and also would serve no purpose.

I am considering turning my Valiant to a Stock Eliminator car and would have to put quite a bit of "stuff" back but that is no biggy.

I've heard factory carpet with NO backing is lighter than rubber floor mat type floor.
I would try and lighten it as much as possible.
Things like do you have to run the blower motor for the heater?
If you do, could you just gut the housing.

thanks Adam your the greatest!!!!

and as far as the blower motor and such you have to have the stock dash and controls but nothing says you have to have anything behind it.

hi, the stock door panels are required. factory carpet also. the rear seat can be removed for roll bar ,but must be carpeted. the heater and wipers with motors can be removed. dash controls have to stay.the sun visors can be removed. 6 point bar and subframe connectors will stiffen chassis. most stockers run a calvert traction system. use 90/10 shocks in front. if you want to get tricky, replace all bolts in front end with aluminum bolts. make car as close to 50/50 front to rear.

As you know, the cars have a weight requirment, but no one says WHERE the weight has to be:-D. If it were me I'd be prowling some Divisional events and looking around. I know of 1 S/S car that has 200lb. A-100 seats and have seen several 'glass parts that have metal filings in the paint so as to pass tech.Of course that's assuming you don't want to acid-dip anything. Seehow this works? EVERYONE has "secrets" they won't talk about, many flat-out illegal, but that doesn't mean they aren't used.

All this coming from a cop!!!!! LOL

wink wink, nod nod, know what I mean, know what I mean?

Thanks for all the insights on ideas of what a person can do. I kinda figured that most rules were "bent" and not broken!

There isn't a lot of SS racing around here until I am ready to travel. We have a great track here in Medicine Hat, but we have 1 national event here a year that sees SS etc. otherwise it is just bracket. So I plan on cloning a SS or Stock car and following the rulebook for what I should and shouldn't do and build it for bracket racing now and down the road go SS.

Thanks for all your input everyone!

Go to classracer.com. All the SE and SS go there. SE is the hardest, most challenging and pricey class racing. Here are some clues- .060 the motor, the factory compression should be at least 10:1 (helps with the bad weather conditions of the summer), find someone that can make that AVS flow, forget the factory 4 speed get at least a Richmond, weight transfer is your best friend when you get that torqin' big block to launch. SE is great!

www.superstockforum.com is another great Stock/Superstock forum. It is pretty tight lipped for "secrets" but you will pick up some pretty good info. The people of that forum are typically very helpful. I don't race stock or super myself but crew on cars in both classes at a few national events.
