Very good point, bigger cams can add hp between 2500 and 4500 rpm. My XE 268 had strong mid range from
3000 up on the occasion i got on it leaving the village to well past highway speeds. The power in that range seemed limitless! It still needed a converter to make power from idle up and that was fun.
Post #44 suggests a stock 340 turning 14.5 is shameful. Ouch!

My 9.5” PTC flashes to 3500 rpm and is absolutely no issues on the street. Slips 3-4 % at the stripe. I have run 3:23’s in the car. Never lacked low end power. The car will kill you in an instant on the street.

And i have to agree with you. My Dynamic 9 1/2" drove normal for the most part. However i did find it difficult in that it would maintain a lazy attitude or blow the tires out completely. Also as I mentioned earlier it was uncomfortable driving through the converter or out of it going down steep hills or out of tight corners at highway speeds.
That converter convinced me i prefer a short duration cam and stock converter at around 2300 rpm.
I'm sure most guys would take the trade to be use a bigger cam with a high stall converter and be able to blow the tires out easily.

You guys and your spinning just don’t know how to set up a car chassis. My son took me for a ride in his 1970 duster with a stock stock crank in it. 3200 pounds (3450 with me in for a ride) 727 transmission with 5600 stall converter. 8 3/4 with 4:10 gears. It runs 6.54 which is around a 10.30 quarter mile time. He runs a street legal 10 inch drag radial on a 10 inch wheel. After we drove around he stopped on the return road and jumped on it. He scared the Ba-jebies out of me. That car hooked and booked with zero heating of the tires. Simple caltracks with mono springs and Rancho shock with sliders. 90/10 cheap front shocks. Not everyone spins like driving on banana peels.

Tx for all the good info guys. My questions have all been answered and then some.

that video wasnt 14.5 that was chitless
xe268 should be smoking the tires @2k rpms unless it not tuned right
my xe268 in 100k mile bottom end with nothing but a stealth and 650 dp dead stop punch with 3.23s will instantly smoke the tires 5500 in 1st 15 feet on the 1 to 2 shift@50ish mph if i so choose
Now with the 3.91s its 5800 instantly and 5800 in 2nd if i so choose
stock verter exhaust manifolds.
the 68 340 came out of my numbers matching gts ran 14.3@97 plus all stock@85k miles
that car in the vid is 15.0 slow shameful
