I can't find my engine ground wire. I took it off when I took out the engine and it is gone. It was the silver flat braided looking thing.

Can I use any wire to replace it? How important is it?

It's essential. Do not expect anything to work properly without it.

As to replacing it, I'd use at least a 4 ga. wire. Make sure your ends are crimped on properly and don't make it longer than you have to.

Another thing... Where did it get bolted too???

I forgot. I know it goes somewhere on the firewall.

So I can bolt it to the back of the head to?

Thank!

If you took it off when removing engine, maybe it,s still on the 6 cyl.??Ground goes to the back of the head to the firewall. It is essential that you put this back on!

yea, I sold the slant 6. damn it!

I get a 4 gauge wire I guess. Like I say though I don't recall where it was placed on the firewall??

Also more ground the better. My battery is grounded with 1/0

and I have 3 ground coming off engine, with 1guage.

Maybe something to consider. When I was wiring hotrods some years back I would always pick the steering column mount as my primary ground. I never went wrong as long as this point had a good connection to battery negative. Sometimes firewall connections are compromised by rust, welded seams, etc. I also hate to suggest that GM had a good idea, but they always have a ground wire from battery negative to the inner fender. Seems to work for them as GM electrics are pretty reliable.

Check out your local car part stores. I bought one from a local store about 8 years ago.

4 guage,10 guage,1 guage, big difference there.Do you really need something as heavy as 4 or 1 guage?I think my ground wire is about 10 guage but it's cracked and I am having some issues with lights flickering,so I am looking to replace it.8) Sorry,I hope I'm staying on topic.

when I moved my battery to the trunk, I had serious issues with the factory grounds. So I took the old battery cable and bolted it to the head; drilled a hole in the kmember, bolted it there. Problem solved.

Checked my engine ground, didn't look to good.
It's fastened to the blower motor, good enough ground?I cleaned under the new terminal down to bare metal.Other end is fastened to intake bolt.Nasty little snake all broken and bare,NG.:-D
