OK guys I am needing some assistance and knowledge here.I am just about ready to start having my new 1967 date 340 block built.I prefer to have a Mopar Guru around the Houston Texas Area build it.Does anyone know of a good Mopar engine builder around Houston Texas they can refer to me.I already have a lot of the parts but still need a new steel crank,I have been trying to decide to either build a stroker or stocker. The engine is going in a 1969 dart 340 Swinger.I have been leaning toward a roller cam stroker engine but really have not decided completely.Any pros or cons. This car will be street driven and played around with in case a mustang or camaro wants to play! LOL. I am not wanting anything radical! Just a MILD! LOL mannered ride.It will be running a A833 4 speed trans.Any help is greatly appreciated .

Thanks

We can help you out here with that, but first, can you post the casting number and the serial number and build date of the block. Is this a NEW block or a new old block .What type of HP level do you want,RPM limit range, are you some one how want all around performance,or a mid range top end charge type of guy. What type of driving habbits do you want from the motor?Do you have a price range set aside for parts and labour and maching for the motor. What do you have now,as for heads, crank, rods, etc. If you can email me your number I can call you and help you out a bit,Mrmopartech

It is a 67 date coded 340 Block, punched .30 over.I have a complete ARP stud kit, pistons and the compression I want to keep it around 10.5 to 1.I want to use a pair of Xheads that I have and looking to spend around$800.00 on the heads doing a little porting and polishing and new Stainless Steel ferra valves.I have a new set of Eagle H beam rods that I have already purchased, the block is already bored and boiled out and honed and cross hatched and is ready to be built.I am looking for around 375 HP if possible,I also plan on using a Edelbrock LD 340 intake,Crane roller rockers that I have new,I hve a stock steel 340 crank that only needs polished but I planned on buying a new crank unless I can achieve the HP with the existing crank,I will also be running an original Thermoquad carb that I am going to have tricked out,I believe it is a 850 cfm carb.I will be running Stock HP cast iron exhaust manifolds that I have.I have not decided to go with a roller cam or just a flat tappet around High 400 to low 500 lift like the purple shaft mopar cams.I will have to get new lifters, pushrods.I have some nice looking used parts but I really want this engine new except for the block. The car will be driven on occaisions, weekends to cruise nights and just playing around. The car has a new posi 8 3/4 rear end with a 489 case with 3.23 gears and Mosier axles that I just had done about 2 months ago,Stock mopar 4 speed will go back in the car with the new engine. The car is a pretty rare Black on Black bench 4 speed mod top car and I don't want to make it too radical.I have another 69 Dart 340 that I am also working on that I want to build a RADICAL 340 for it.It will be used on the Street and Strip.I want to keep the Mod Top car looking pretty much Original with just a few exceptions such as a custom pistol grip shifter handle like a B body, disc brakes,Super Stock springs.I will get the block casting number tomorrow and any other numbers I can find on it.

A black 4sp 340 Mod Top? That's cool...
The plan looks decent so far. FOr 375hp, you dont need much really. The LD340 is a good intake, and the Tquad bolts right on. I wouldnt go crazy on porting the heads. They will work better if you just have a good performance valve job (5 angle with cutters, no stones) done, and maybe gasket match them. no bigger valves...In terms of cams, you dont need a roller, and you dont want one either, IMO. If you must stay MP (and it would be my last choice) I'd go with the P4452992, 280°/.474 hydraulic. It will make decent torque, which is what a 3.23 geared stick car will like. My first choice would be a Crane, 693801, 278°/.467 int, 290°/.494 exh. Second would be the Comp XE268. All choices should be degreed to make sure they are where they are supposed to be. A very nice package you're putting together..
