A lap joint shouldn't need slits. A butt joint are two pipes the same size. A lap joint is a pipe with a inside diameter the same as the outside diameter of the joining pipe. One pipe fits inside the other and the band clamp is formed for the 2 different OD pipes.If you're band clamping a lap joint, do you have to cut a couple slits in the overlapping tube so the clamp tightens it down more?
