Failure or success with Jeg's or Summit branded ( china ) parts

Used Summit products for years, zero problems. Did buy a Mallory coil from Summit once, was DOA & Summit replaced it.
So much of the brand name stuff is being made in China & the price double/tripled. I have had a $120 no-name brand Chebby starter on the bench next to a MSD starter that cost $US300+. Only Difference? The instruction sheet with the Chinese starter had the MSD logo blanked out!
 
I buy alot of Summit brand parts. I have never had a issue with any of them. I even have a Summit brand ready to run distribitor in my 383 and my 318..
 
I really like the Summit brand double row timing chains, nice and tight.
Also their battery dis-connect switches work great.

Failure : I purchased a premade braided fuel line from Jegs to use as a return line from the fuel pump to the fuel cell as I had installed a new cell. The fittings leaked, I kept checking to see if they were tight and they were. I went to my local speed and had a new hose made and he told me that although the fittings look legit they are in reality Chinese knock offs. Jegs refunded my money no problem. I did just recently purchase a set of Summit headers , they were cheap at less than $200 , as I am only using them to dyno my motor because I didn't want to put individual a/f bungs in each tube of my new Tubular Automotive headers. I have had Summit shorty headers on my D150 for many years with no problems except having to change a gasket once.
 
Its true, without China ''we would have nuffing''...

Forget Covid, (an import that ruined the world,) some of their gear is much better than OEM!
And its at a price we all can afford.
Maybe its too cheap, that's why i keep buying stuff I don't need and will never use lol...

When it comes to stroker kits 'they changed the World' credit where credit is due... Gao-Chao
 
In my personal experience, I have used Summit AN fittings, exhaust systems, timing chain, air cleaner, camshaft, ignition system and probably a lot more. I have never had an issue with any of it, except the cam. It didn't last much past the break-in. They replaced it no problem. In fact, they let me upsize it.
 
I bought a Comp Double roller timing set from Summit and it arrived damaged. No damage to shipping container or to Comp's cardboard box, so Someone at Comp broke the damned thing and boxed it up anyway! Called Summit and they sent me a replacement and didn't want the old one back. Said Comp would contact me to get the old one. They never did. Cam gear is only damaged part, so I have extras of everything else now.

Ive used lots of trickflow part which is owned by summit
Fuel pumps mostly went well
AN fitting s should use usa
Where would we be if we didn’t have Jegs/summit or even mancini& hughes
Competition makes them try harder
They can’t get parts for some older cars

I would think that CMC in Michigan grinds their house brand cams. Camshaft Machine Company grinds most every shelf cam for the big outfits... Comp, Isky, etc. They have for years.
 
I have used a few summit brand parts and have had good luck. Except...
...for their SFI balancer several years ago. The bond came unbonded and we had about 50 degrees of advance in the motor that did some damage. Never again...ATI or nothing.

That said, I have been wondering about their ready to run distributors...
 
Well..........think about it. Do you think Summit has a factory making dists...or starters....or intake manifolds....or....
They buy these from reputable companies, put them in a Summit box.....& take less profit.
 
summit owns trickflow and they sure enough make heads, intakes, so yea i think they make who knows what

More often they buy from Chinese companies for pennies on the dollar with their stickers on them. Then they make MORE money...

He likes using their universal fuel system in a box (LS style, he's a Chevy guy) and so far they've been nice. Done several of them. They can be used on anything with a fuel pressure around 60 PSI, so it doesn't have to be an LS of course. Fittings and lines all look just as quality as Earls, Russell or whatever and go together just as easily. Also, their camshafts USED to be ground by Crane, so they try to offer quality when they can. Now that Crane's gone, I don't know who does it. I've not had any trouble with any of their other items yet. I don't worry a lot about it because they have such a great return and warranty policy.

Don't use ANY of their branded AN fittings. I ordered and received an AN fitting with NP 3/8" to screw into a fuel sender. Sealed, correct label. Wouldn't seal. The fitting turned out to be straight taper.
