What kind of fans are good for extra cooling power for my 360 what's a good setup for it

Thanks

Most important is a shroud that fits close to the fan. I think a factory clutch/fan is best since it has many big blades that move a lot of air at low speed, without robbing power on the highway. If you add an electric pusher fan on the front, I have read that several factory fans are much better than after-market ones. Many use a M-B fan or a Ford 2-speed. Read up on rodder sites like HAMB.

Is this for a 66 Cuda? If so, and you are running the original radiator, you will be looking for the 2 piece metal shroud and special smaller 17" fan. The hot ticket for that setup is the 6 bladed fan with a clutch from a later car and eliminate the spacer. That's what I'm running in my 66!!

If you need a 17" 6 bladed fan, let me know, I have a couple extra!! Ill also include a pic of my setup when I'm at the big computer!! Geof

i have found that the clutch fan works the best in most cases. i have had both on my Bronco and took the pusher off was blocking air more than pushing. and if you are going to use an eletric put it on the inside to pull the air with a shroud that leaves the front of the rad. clear for air flow to go through it

OK, so heres a picture of what I'm running on my 66 Cuda...

Stock 22" radiator, recored to 3 row
Stock 2 piece metal shroud
17" 6 bladed fan correct for the metal shroud opening
Later clutch removed from a 69 318, I eliminated the original fan spacer and just bolted this to the fan and in place!!

Hope this helps, Geof

I have run this on every car i have ever owned. It is an amazing fan, and moves a ton of air at low speeds.

If he has the original radiator and wants to run the original style metal shroud, the only fan that will fit the opening in the shroud is the stock 17" unit. That summit fan measures 18 3/4", corresponding with the later stock 19" shroud opening!

Unfortunately, no later style shroud will fit an early A body radiator as they use metal clips on the side of the radiator whereas the later style shrouds bolt to the radiator! Geof

they make that fan in a smaller 17" size. Again best fan i have ever run in a mechanical series.

I used that style nylon mechanical fan for a couple of years.. It did not pull nearly enough air thru the radiator for my application.. Went to a Derale flex fan, with lots of blade pitch and the air flow is dramatically better. Motor runs at 180 on a 180 thermostat, rarely gets to 190 even in heavy traffic.

I second getting a factory shroud and factory thermostatic clutch fan. I have always had excellent results with this. Plus, with a clutch fan, it is essentially impossible to sling a fan blade off at high rpm.

Rock auto has a varitey of blades for the clutch so you can probably find a good size.

Also like mentioned, summit racing has fan blades for clutch type:

What I would do is get the fan blade and shroud from a junk yard and get the clutch new.

Post a picture or a part number please>

Yeah I won't use those, they flatten out too much, plus I have seen them come apart at high rpm!

does the fan blade for a clutch fan, have to be designed for clutch fan.

also, the slant six spins clockwise? Can't check myself as engine is apart.

thanks

The factory style clutch fan seems to work decent, however, I think that most of them have been designed to tighten up at a higher temperature than some of us want. I noticed the one I had been running would start pulling much more air at about 205 water temp, not the ~190 that I wanted to maintain. Its still a good option.

For electric fans, a 3.8L Taurus fan should fit a 22" radiator pretty well, and the '95-'99 Ford Contour 2.5 V6 dual fans are about a perfect fit for a 26" radiator.

I'll be running the Contour fans on a 26" 3-row champion radiator. I don't think a 26" radiator will fit in an early A though.

I have 73 Dart with a slant 6, just got a new 22" radiator that bolted on stock holes, I tried to get a clutch fan, but they are too long(snout) I tried to use those flex fan, got three of them and they don't clear my power steering. Only way I think is to remove radiator and add some more spacers, will never be able to install blade without removing radiator. is this how it is done? from radiator to pulley, I have 4". look into electric fans, to pull around 2000cfm, thickness of fan is 4" or over. the fans that are 2 to 3" thick won't pull enough air. So I am currently using the stock 4 blade fan until something comes up. Jerry
