Im doing a bit of research on the fastest small block.

must be non stroked
no power adders (blown or turbo)
and no nitrous

so all motor, be it a 318, 340, or 360

I know Locomotion has a 11...something 360, so anything else out there?

10.4- on a stoke stroke 360 in a 68 valiant-cast heads--Steve

Eric Bardekoff.....NHRA SS/GT.

Copy & Paste.....

Bardekoff and his dad found his '68 Barracuda in Kentucky. JeffLawrence and Billy Marshall from Lawrence Racing Engines supplied the Dodge 360 powerplant.

Bardekoff made his debut in the car at an East Coast Stock/Super Stock event at Atco Dragway early last year and has been running it in NHRA and other events since. Earlier this year, Bardekoff set the GT/FA record at Atco, running 9.59 at 136 mph.

Damn, that sounds beautiful....^^^^^

Ummm..... this will lead straight to a rail (dragster) running a small block...

again thats impressive into the 9's, but whats the motor?

What did Glidden's Arrow run?

Or the PS trucks?

I don't think either were stock stroke. There is an NA small block with W8 heads in a cuda out east that's been high 7's I think it's stock suspension but I'm sure it isn't stock displacement or block.

Put a R5P7 motor in an A body and you will have a 9 second car with almost no tuning....get it tuned and you could drop into the high 8's.

I guy I met at Monster Mopar in Indy a few years ago that has a blue Barracuda with a low compression 340, production iron heads...it ran high 9's (he is on Moparts, not sure if he is on here)...that was a trick piece.

keep em coming guys

see the thing is, im interested in the skills of the tuner to make the power from whats there, rather than adding turbos etc or stroking, i suppose in the past days of home tuning.
there must be people out there that from their garage produced some real hitters,

Most impressive small block I've seen (maybe not the fastest) was a Dodge Demon go 10.90's with a 340, factory compression, cast heads, factory cast dual plane intake, and a Thermoquad on top. It was an all steel car too....

see thats very impressive, but no idea on what was done to make it go that fast?

I'm always impressed with the NHRA Stockers, the 340/360 A-body cars.
Talk about tuning.

I ran a best of 6.99 in the 1/8 in my Demon back around 03 with a stock stroke 360 with ported J heads. Car had stock interior with bench seat only fiberglass was hood and bumpers and drove to track. Ran a 6.47 on 100 shot nitrous.

the 71 duster , 340 stocker can run 10.80's cast int , T.Q. carb, stock lift cam, stock stroke, stock comp ratio. stock port volumes. well built motor and suspension., on 9 " slick

What did Glidden's Arrow run?

Or the PS trucks?

Bob used a 3.20 stroke...and ran I believe 8.40s...Actually I believe he had the P/S record at one time in the 8.30s with the Arrow..

back in the day of weight breaks....you did not want to win by too much....LOL

Many People have asked or are intrigued by our motor,WE don't know right now what the secret Barton Has in this motor BUT we will soon find out,They were no help when I called about it in fact they wanted it back in a bad way,So it'll get pulled soon to re-ring and check things out,I can tell you we have jesel rockers 1.6 on exhaust and 1.7 on the intakes,Roller rockers,Barton prioritized 13.5 to 1 pistons that are gas ported and un-known cam specs BUT were going to find that out too--Steve

I had a stock bore and stroke 340 in a 1967 Valiant ( the car swifter has now ) and I ran a best of 6.67 @ 102 in the 1/8 and a best of 10.53 @ 128 in the quarter putting it on the bumper every run . I had another low compression 340 + .030 that was 9.2 comp I ran on Ultra 94 pump gas that went 10.69 @ 126 I shifted it at 8200 RPM it loved to rev that was back in 1998 nobody believed that it was a smogger but it was :burnout:

keep em coming
so far theres a distinct pointer towards mid to late 10's as a average for a well built 340/360
and high 9's for a unknown build.

in the Uk im getting the opposite reactions, im getting averages of high 12's to low 13's as very best???

so gears and stall have been a benefactor in the very quick cars, along with stock lift and duration.

Im gona start a new thread, where people can add that info, hope this sounds ok.
