He was our most humble president and the best ex-president we may ever see. In the late 1990s I was on the road just north of Roanoke VA along I-81 and stopped at a McDonalds for lunch. I was sitting there eating and 2 guys came in with dark sunglasses and wires in their ears and looked around and then opened the door and Jimmy and Rosalyn came in and sat next to me to eat their lunch. He struck up a conversation and they were as open and personable as anybody. I had to ask for permission to shake his hand as I was leaving for fear that the Secret Service would arrest me.

I have always been proud that he was from Georgia. I think he got a bad rap for the failed Iranian hostage rescue attempt. He's done more than any other former President has ever done to try and make the world a better place. And he did. May he rest in peace.
 
He and his cabinet kept the contractor I worked for busy. Interstates, flood control projects, a launch complex for the Shuttle, which kept me busy also. Great Scott! My apprentice wages during that time just hit me :rofl: .
 
In the late 70s, I worked at a Dodge Chrysler Plymouth dealership. The owner needed 3 conversion vans picked up in Georgia and driven back to Hudson, NC. I volunteered and a local highway patrolman had recently got his pilots license and wanted to build his hours, so he flew us for the cost of fuel. First stop was Americus, GA. We dropped off one of our salesmen there to pickup one van, then the other two of us were flying back to Lawrenceville to pickup two more. As we were leaving the airport at Americus, there was a big white twin turboprop plane landing underneath us. The next day, the salesman we left in Americus told us that was Rosalynn Carter landing there as we were leaving.
 
I see President Joe declared Jan 9th a national day of mourning. Could be the Feds will take that day off work. Flags at half mast until 1/28.

Jimmy was one of our most HUMBLE presidents for sure. He only served one term but I would rather he made it for 2. His accomplishments outside the Presidency were far greater than what he was allowed to do in the 4 years. Nobel peace prize winner humanitarian and civil rights advocate. There really is not much bad to say about Jimmy Carter...the man and President.

What made Jimmy Carter a wonderful human being, is what made him a horrible president.
He was such a nice guy, and had such a massive faith in people, I'm not sure that he always understood that there is always someone trying to take advantage of that.
Gotta give the man credit, he did more for the American people after he was president than any other modern president has.
I also want to point out that he was WWII veteran, we're losing those guys waaayyyy to fast.

Well, none of us lasts forever.
 
He wasn’t a good president but his actions as a man afterwards is priceless. He was a good man at heart helping others when and where ever he could.

How many ex-presidents do you see helping build houses for the poor and disaster areas? Donating time and effort for others less fortunate?

Yup. Daddy was on DE742 in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. He was on it from commission to decommission. It won eight battle stars. That little tub saw a lot of action. He's been gone since 98.
 
I'm tired of hearing about the poor and the homeless. The poor get all the handouts, meanwhile I worked 2 jobs to support my family, and the homeless want to be there because no taxes and answer to nobody. More affordable housing that the working class pay for and the poor get the advantage. Yeah I'm bitter.
 
I don't generally like Democrats (to be fair, I don't like Republicans either) but I always thought he seemed like a very decent, humble man who lived by example to what all former presidents should be. Mrs. Carter was also an amazing person.

I'm sorry that life has led you to feel this way, but there are lots of homeless people working multiple jobs to try and keep their family safe and fed and there are lots of poor people working full time jobs and getting paid squat because big companies know that they can profit off of the fact that they can get their labor and have your taxes keep them afloat.
