floor pans

Got that part correct, now trying to learn to put down a bead. Not as easy as u tube videos would have you think. I believe this will be an all day project just for the one piece. I might stop and mow the grass till my neighbor gets home and get a lesson from someone who does this for a living. Although, anyone who knows me, I really want to do it myself. Hard headed.

Remember that wire speed is also a way to compensate for heat range. If it is gobbing up on you slow down the wire a bit....

I'm not sure, seems to be splattering a lot and not putting out enough to secure, if that makes sense. Perhaps the picture will show what I am trying to describe

I think I would much rather be getting the body ready to paint. This is just to much fun for one person to have.

Does it feel like the wire is pushing you away? If so you need more heat and or slower wire speed. Hold it in one spot till you get a puddle of sorts and then move.

I've tried different adjustments, I think I need to step away for a while and come back later. I'm not able to get a pool anywhere. Just seems to splatter alot. Just the operator I'm certain.
Thanks for the advice

Are you using an extension cord? It may be too small if you are and causing voltage drop. I use a 10/3 cord for my wire welder. That wire almost looked like it was aluminum....

does that metal have primer on it? hit it with a wire scratch brush at the weld joint. Even if its weld through primer. otherwise you need to jack the heat up to get through the primer and you will end up blowing holes in the metal. Make sure you have good ventilation and preferably a respirator if you primed the metal.

Ok, I'm mowing at present, but I did spray welding primer. Was that a mistake. Also, am using a happy duty short drop cord
ill get back to the car in a little while.
Thank you so much for the advice

not at all. just scratch through it, them electrons like to see the metal. same with your ground-be sure its on a clean spot
Fabo messenging while mowing is dangerous. do one or the other. the kids don't even do that. Oh, wait, -they don't mow.

Awesome. You guys are so helpful
this old man appreciates it so much

Feel like a grumpy old man.
Happy Birthday again. As long as I don't catch up with you, I'll be okay.

I have stopped mowing, drive belt broke, went back to the car. The more I brushed to clean the primer the more rust is showing up in the floor pan. I definitely need to clean all of this before I continue with this adventure
I really thought this was the easiest one to do. Rear floor pan. I have the passenger side front to do as well. It is a larger area and I thought I would start small.

If your unit is upgradable to MIG I would definitely consider doing so. Get your basics first and you will be amazed at the difference between flux core and MIG.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to try and finish this project and will probably never have a need to use it again. Bought it and thought I would sell it, helmet and all when I finish. I'm sure it is my lack of knowledge that is the problem. I may have been better off having someone do this for me, but I am a do it myself person. Stubborn, hard headed, maybe a little stupid thrown in. But once complete and someone ask who painted your car I can proudly say I did it myself. The stupid hard headed and stubborn were provided by my wife.

Yeah but when you get shipwrecked with Ginger and Mary Ann you will be the professor!

That is an awesome thought. I did like Mary Ann, but the last time I saw her, she has gotten old. I guess I have to though

She is still good looking even with a few more years of experience. Ahhhh what the young men are missing.

On the positive side, nothing went boom! On the negative side, I didn't get the hang of welding. Project is on hold for a couple of days. My neighbor is going to help show me what I am doing wrong, but as any of you who are married will understand, he and his wife have plans for the holiday weekend. Continued soon
