For anyone who has swapped a 340 with manual transmission into a 66 Dart

Here is a photo (looking in from the driver side wheel well) showing the 67 and up position of the ball stud mount.

Has anyone modified a 66 or earlier to accept this plate? How did you know where to locate it?

Simple answer you bolt it on. You are going to want to use the correct early A mount for the swap. Save yourself a lot of time and call brewers. that way you can answer all the questions needed in one conversation instead of a thousand posts here.

straying from the stock mount and using/modifying a 67 and up style piece takes a hard turn into modifying and customizing everything else in the whole apparatus. the z, the push rod, the bell mount, all that jazz.

which you then start veering into no-mans land.

getting a 4spd into the early cars it hard enough as it is, and dicking around with a mish-mosh of parts is just inviting headache after headache. and some ballaches for good measure.

Just locate the stock Z bar bracket in the correct place, mark and drill the holes and bolt it on. What's the issue?

So if I get this part from Brewers, and I swap it for the existing part, the 67 pieces will bolt up?

No.

You're not going to use '67-up parts, you're going to use '64-'66 parts. The '67 and later parts are a completely different arrangement. They don't interchange, so put those out of your mind.

The factory bellhousing for your car was a cast-iron unit for a 9.5" clutch. If you're trying to use a later 10.5" bellhousing, that's another reason to call Brewer's. They have the engine-side ball stud and anything else you'll need to make the later, large bellhousing work with the 1964-'66 parts. They can even advise you on the required floor modifications. They're very helpful, friendly folks who can tell you, and provide, exactly what you need to get your 4-speed dialed.

I am using the 10.5 bell. OK, so the modification is on the bell side not the frame side. I'll get hold of Brewers tomorrow. Thanks!
