I have a front suspension question that is a mystery to me but may have a simple answer from those on this forum with a lot more knowledge. The car is a 67 Barracuda notchback and the space between the tire and the top of the wheel well is about 1/2 inch different between the left and front sides. The strange thing is the top of the wheel well arches are exactly 25 inches off the pavement on each side. With the same wheels and tire on each side, how could this be? The car has an AlterKtion front suspension that was brand new when I got the car. I am plannign to take it to a Mopar suspension specialist when the weather improves but woudl like some idea(s) of the problem befroe I take it in.

Some astute members of this forum correctly diagnosed an oil conpumtion problem as a leaking intake gasket which I had cfixed and the car runs fantastic since. Very impressive diagnostics from nothing other than a newbie post! Hoping to simiar results.

Thanks for you input in advice.

alter-k......

If it has an alter-k in it then a mopar suspension specialist sure as hell isn't going to help.

It's gotta be something stupid. Does it have superstock springs on it?

Not sure how each wheel arch is 25" but tire ti arch is different. Have any pictures of the issue??

Can always call bill at RMS and see what he says. He is who builds the alter-k.

One fender is shimmed higher than the other. Torsion bar or spring adjustments gonna change both reference points. front end may be tweaked.

I never thought, does alter-k do away with the torsion bars? I have never seen one of their set ups in person.

Got it. No torsion bars... My first answer is no good.

If it has adjustable coil springs, make sure that the coil spring preload is set the same on both sides. More preload=higher ride height..less=lower

you need to decide what you want. body looking even at both wheel wells, suspension ride hight the same on both sides or, since you have coilovers, do you want the weight on both front tires even. when your measuring ride hight you can't go off the body unless you just want the gap even. too many variables. that's why the factory way is to use two fixed points on each side of the suspension and get that even.

Without putting the car on a frame rack, or blocking it up at the frame members level against a level floor so that you can take some measurements, you are just guessing.

You'll never convince me you SAW that difference with your eye, what got you so worried?

my car has stock suspension and it sits uneven

(when fully up in the air and sitting on the frame with blocks)

it also might be your back suspension too? measure your back to the top of the wheel arches and see if its even

There are more variables than I was aware of. I'll have to give this some more thought before taking the car and getting it put on a frame rack. My initial thoughts are the coil-over preload based on these responses.

67dart you are correct I did not noitce this, the guy whio did the intake gaket pointed it out to me but he is right. I understated the gap differential, it is smore like a1 inch differential between the fenders and top of the tires. The ride height differential is more like 1/2 inch so something does not seem right with the set up.

Thanks for all the input. WHen I have it checked out closer to spring I'll post the resluts.

If the dog leg section of front frame rail is getting weak from internal rot it may be deflecting just enough causing a difference in the angle of the dangle from opposite side. Get out the awl and do some probing.
