I recently asked about a front sway bar for a 73 swinger not originally equipped with one and was PM'd my a member here with a very reasonable offer for a Dorman sway bar kit. Only problem is, the web site lists this part for application only up to 1972 and they don't list a front kit for 73 or newer.

Is there any difference in the front end between 72 to 73 that would make this sway bar kit a no go? My car is sbp wheels with "10 front drums.

part# is 927-196

Thanks.

Yes, I believe those are the cut off years. Up to 72 used a front mounted bar on the K member and 73 and later used a bar that goes through the middle of the K member.

The change also changes the positioning of the connector tabs on the lower arms. The 73/ later bar goes through the hollow K member. The older 72/ earlier goes under the K. They are differently shaped.

I guess if you were to fab the mountings for the bar under the K, and had the correct tabs on the lower arms, you could use a 72 bar on a 73/ later car.

If you want to put the 72 bar on a 73 you have to swap the spindles from one side to the other and move the brake calipers to the rear of the spindle.. Or it won't steer.

The same has to be done when adding the 73 brakes to a 72 340 car with the early bar. If you don't put the brakes to the rear of the spindle. the calipers will hit the wider 72 bar.

The early bar fits the later K-member . But the later bar does not fit the early K-member. So the bar you have will work on your car. Just a little extra work.

You will also have to move the brake hose tabs to the rear and buy hoses for a 72 road runner. or 72 B-body at NAPA. Just add others leave yours there you'll just have an extra set.

You can run an early (67-72) bar on a late (73-76) k-member without swapping the spindles if you run short end links. You may have to drill out the bracket holes on the k-member.

I don't know about the Dorman bars strength. The original "around the 'K' bar was a long limber timber. Any is better than nothing though. Larger correct bar would be my choice. A larger issue may exist with that aftermarket bar. Majority of aftermarket bars attach at lower shock bolts. You might need to switch sides with the spindles to reposition the calipers and buy new longer fluid hoses.
Correct bar for your 73 front suspension was available in a for sale listing just days ago.

Thanks for responses. I got home and checked my PST catalog and they list a different application for 73 to 76.

I'll just buy a "round peg" rather than trying to modify my car to accept a "square peg"
