Im moving my wiring and will be replacing the fuseable link from starter relay to ammeter. Was wondering what size fuse you would recommend using in its place. I put in a maxi fuse holder with 8 gauge wire.
Thanks Rod

No one ever change out the fusible link with an inlne fuse while moving battery??

Honestly I have been wondering the same thing. You should be good to fuse it to the safe ampacity of the wire. I do wonder what the fusible links are rated to blow at. In the bit of research I did, I see that a #8 gauge wire should be good for 73 amps DC and I fused mine at 50.

Replaced the fusible link with a self resetting circuit breaker and bypassed the amp meter, but not while moving the battery. :D

You are protecting the wire in the circuit so the 8WG is good but size the fuse for the wire it is protecting. If you have 10 gauge wire I would use a 60 amp, 12 gauge use a 50 amp. Definitely carry spares, fuses blow quick vs a fusible link.

Do a google search. A lot of people on other forums say its not a good idea to replace a FL with a blade fuse.
I just made another link. Wasn't hard.

Can you say "fire" boys and girls ?
To route larger wires and less failsafe into the cabin is not a good plan.
If you would put the headlights, blower motor, any other high draw circuits, on relays, you could install a lesser than OEM gauge fusible link. This smart plan requires deeper pockets though.

I am in the middle of routing stuff like my MSD, electric vacuum pump, fan controller, etc. to a Painless auxillary fuseblock. My electric fans and headlights are on relays.
I have also bypassed the ammeter and added an alternator wire around with a fusible link.
I was going to run straight wire through the bulkhead and change out all the connectors for brand new ones. After dunking all connectors in the nice used harness I bought with vinegar and salt solution and then neutralizing in baking soda/water, they came out looking great, so I made a new fusble link, and packed every connector with dialectric grease. Between taking load off the system a thorough cleaning they I think they should be fine.
