Back in the day,

Judy Lilly was crushing it in;
* 1974 > SS/MA

* 1976 > SS/KA

With the Offenhauser Dual-Plane/Dual-Port {#6006} Intake on her 1974 Duster 360.

This one is better than the torkerII and the Holley strip dominator i ran before with the 750 choke less race holley

Great reference info all in one place.
I wonder if there is any way to find out the internal volumes of the various intakes. Finding and measuring each individually would be quite an undertaking. But the overall volume is a factor in how it would perform.

Interesting info.

Where are you getting the data?

How is it measured?

the offy dual port dual plane may be a little tricky to "spec" out as the ports are divided.

How are them measuring the carb height?

What is the "standard" for the weight? Bare, as cast and shipped in the box. or fully dressed with heater nipples, carb studs, vacuum fittings, with or without thermostat and housing? There is alot of "gray" area here. I'm not knocking it, just trying to see if we can get it as accurate as possible to compare "apples to apples".

Great info.

I may have a couple of the "missing links" if we need to check something...

First, you need to establish the 'standards' for measuring. If more than one person measures it, they may do it differently. Then you throw any value for comparison out the window.

They all need to be measured the same way using the same process/procedure for the information to be meaningful.

Then if we all try to chip in and measure our intakes, we need to measure virgin castings without any porting or grinding anywhere.

You must remember,

Each Intake Manifold, will perform differently with a selected Camshaft.

On an 'even' keel test, the

* Edelbrock Performer Air-Gap #7576
* Holley Strip Dominator #300-8

Were identical in Horsepower output at 6200 RPM's.

On a 'Sour Note', most everbody was not impressed with the original Edelbrock Torker 340.

Cheeto,

The Offenhauser {#6006} 360* Dual-Plane/Dual Port Intake first hit the market in 1971.

* Style > 360* / Dual-Plane / Dual-Port / Plenum Divider

* Separate split/runners for the primaries and secondaries

* The design was, that the front {Primary} throttle bores supplied the lower portion of the runner ports.
* And, the back {Secondary} throttle bores supplied the upper portion of the runner ports.
* If anything, this Offenhauser Manifold liked 'rich' Air/Fuel mixtures, and with the throttle bores wide open.
* If the Carburetor was on the 'lean side', the performance was sluggish and with a low-end power loss.

* Peak Power was found at 6000 RPM's.

Did you know that they also were made in spread bore and square bore....

Krazy Kuda,

Es Muy Excellente'.........

The Port Sizes

Upper = 1.10" W x 1.18" H ........ {For the Secondaries}
Lower = 1.10" W x 0.75" H ........ {For the Primaries}

What we found, when doing tests for Chrysler in 1972 thru 1974 on our 340 and 360 Drag Race Cars in Super/Stock.

The Offenhauser #6006 Dual Port worked best with an Automatic Transmission car, and with the 1974 '360' Engine and the #3671857 Cylinder Heads {1.88" Intake x 1.60" Exhaust}.

And with the Thermoquad #6453 Carburetor {1.500" Primary x 2.250" Secondary}.

We had to increase the size of the Primary Jets, as the Thermoquad #6453 was equipped with {.092"} Jets
which were too lean.

I checked an Mopar M1, Wieand dual plane spread bore, Edelbrock RPM and stock 69 cast iron and all had the same carb height.

What I'm I measuring wrong?

Not to interfere with your excellent post. Mind you,I have one of personal experience. Beginner's/sissies ,don't apply here.
SB-Chrysler 340-360

Designed for high performance street 340-360 c.i.d. Chrysler V8s.

Port Exit Dimensions: 1.00" x 2.17"
Manifold Height: (A) 5.25", (B) 6.19"Click here to determine carburetor pad height
Manifold not equipped with EGR.
Can be used on 318 c.i.d. if 340-360 c.i.d. cylinder heads are used. Not for heavy vehicles.
Personal experiences: Works great with T.Q.'s and a tweaked manifold adapter. Likes 10 or better reak comp,slightly ported heads(240 on up,intake flow) . Seen it work with quicker action hydraulics,prefers solids & rollers. Likes N2O,deeper gears & converter. Starts pulling about 2500-3000...

Nice shot of the dual port intake! Back in the day, some racer must have cut the plenum divider back at the port an inch or so, and maybe knife edged it to see the effect on performance. Anyone have an idea on the outcome? How would this effect port velocity?

Edelbrock Tarantula #TM-5

* Single-Plane ~ Open Plenum ~ High Rise
* First introduced by Edelbrock in 1971.
* Designed for Super/Stock cars.
* Or Modified Production cars who wanted to utilize a single large CFM carburetor.
* Directed a more uniform Air-Fuel Charge to the Cylinders.
* Plowed the Air-Fuel into the Plenum floor at higher RPM's.
* The most popular Intake for '4-Speed' Super/Stock cars back-in-the-day.

* A damn good unit, that worked well for high RPM's {3500 to 7500}.
* Once you hit 5500 RPM's, it was like you went into another stage.

Cheeto,

On the right is the Weiand #7507.

On the left is the Weiand Action-Plus #8007.

The #7507 is 'near' equivalent to the Edelbrock LD-340 in performance.

How does the Wiand Stealth compare to the LD340?
