A friend from church asked me the other day if I'd be interested in checking out a car this weekend. He visits the elderly in our parish and ran across this car. He knew that I was a "Dart guy" so he immediately thought of me. The owner has passed and the son is clearing out the garage. Here is what he's told me about the car so far.

It's a one owner (little old lady) 1963 Dart convertible. It has 78k miles and has been off the road since 2001 as confirmed by the license plate and a oil change sticker (300 miles on oil). It's a slant six but I don't know what size and has an automatic transmission. White with white top, and red interior. It is "rust free" but you know how that always ends up. The only rust he could find was surface rust in the trunk.

Son is a motivated seller and wants it to go to a good home. We've already talked price a little, and he's not looking to make a killing. Here's the pics he sent me, I'll try to get more this weekend. Weather here is crappy and supposed to get worse by the weekend.

Nice find. That interior and top look to be pretty decent condition. Bet the paint will polish up nicely once the bird crap is washed off.

Looks good so far! I hope it works out for you. I love Barn Finds, that's why I six dead Mopars at the moment - the price was right, the condition was good enough, and I have room to store them. Plus, the owners all knew I wasn't going to flip them. The hopelessly rusted out ones will provide parts for the others, making a few runners when I'm done. Keep us in the loop!

Any mention of why it was taken off the road 23 years ago?

The son said she was getting too old to drive. I'm pretty sure it wasn't because the slant 6 quit at 78k, 300 miles after an oil change. We shall see.

I hope that’s true for you. Seems like fantastic little car and story.

Neato car. Look at the water pump bypass hose between the head and water pump. If it's about 3.5-4" long it's a 225. If it's only about 1" or so long, it's a 170.

Brian, that interior looks really clean! I was expecting it to be moldy, given the state of the outside and how long it has been sitting.

It's a crappy picture but it's the best I can do until I see the car.

I talked to my friend today and he said that the first time he went to look at it, the garage door broke and wouldn't close. The company that repairs garage doors said that they couldn't fix it with the car in the way. So my friend went back over and aired up the tires and pulled it out using his truck. They put it under a carport for a couple of days and then moved it back inside when the garage door was repaired. He took a couple more pics then.

It would have to have them on today for sure!

That area where the carpet is pulled back is the only rust he could find on the car.
