going to the track for my first time

<Don't double bulb, turning on the pre stage and stage bulbs before the other guy is even prestaged. It REALLY pisses some people off. >

Why? I kinda get pissed when the other guy burns out after me and takes his sweet time getting staged while my tires cool off. They think they are psyching me out but I am really so focused on what I am doing it does not matter to me. Never see the other lane till we get close to the finish line. If double bulbing pisses off the other guy off maybe that is good if it throws off his concentration.

Also... I have made a little check list so I don't screw something up like leaving the emergency brake on or running down the track with the elec fan on.

HAHA I. Leave the brake on one time and everyone has to joke on me lol

It was fun my first time was 15.537@87. 2.1 60ft my last pass was 14.87@92. 2.01 60ft

With my street tires they spun but gave me the best time 245/60/15 and the rest of the passes were my 28/9/15 slicks so what would work best is 26/8/15 for me

At some events, you double bulb someone you get an automatic "L" on the timeslip. Most guys consider it discourteous and I've seen fights break out in big bracket event over it. Some guys have stuff to do in the car that requires some time. If autostart is on, you have a certain number of seconds, about 8, to get what you need done. That happens when one car is staged and the other prestaged, the later car has 8 seconds to get into the staged beams. You double bulb them they only have a short amount of time to get in once prestaged...

You double bulb some guys, you'll sit until the starter forces them into the beams... Flipping switch, setting stuff up, pulling belts, etc.

If you are concerned about your tires, make sure you start your burnout second. They really have to sit for a decent period of time on most street cars to negatively effect performance after a proper burnout.

I never new about the double bulb lighting being discourteous. Good to know.

If your 245/60/15's were quicker than the 28" slicks, the car needs more gear or shorter slicks. 4.30's or 4.56's with the 28" would work better.

Something is a bit soft. Should be around a 14.20 with that MPH and 60'.
Post up the incrementals. I have a suspicion.

Very cool. Usually when it goes slower with slicks its because it doesn't have enough gear or converter. Still very good for your first time. Plus Fontana is like 1900 feet if I remember correctly, it will go even faster at sea level.

Great to hear that you had a successful first outing!

Talking with guys at the track this weekend there is a reason why "double bulbing" is rude - cause it starts the the automatic timing on the tree. Plus, I didn't know about the blinking light which turns solid when the countdown starts.

And Mark, I too have gone down the track with the brake on. Now it is part of my unload from the trailer checklist. Easy to do with no warning light.

Did the slicks spin or dead hook? If they hooked did ya try uPping pressure on them? What rpm did you cross line at with both tires? Did you vary rpm you launched at with both?

Troy

Slicks worked really good and hooked I did very rpms at launch and I think low to no rpm was best 1400 even from idle was a good launch ..... It seemed I was turning more rpm with my street tires than with slicks

You need to know what RPM you went through the traps to determine if the driveline is losing a bunch.

It should RPM higher with your street tires, they are shorter, less circumference than the taller slicks = more turn for same distance.

Had fun and nothing broke = good outing.

My fish had the same 60 ft time with 255/60 25" street tires as 275/60 27" drag radials. Slippage may have helped make up for the low converter.
