Doors put back together.

Sealed, lubed, windows roll up and down easy and quiet, not making any funny noises like dry hood hinges on the A Bodies.

OK interior pretty well shaped up, now working my way around the body.

Next: Driver's box side prep. Break the shine and clean the faded surface by hand sanding with 320 dry.

Lots of white small scratches to make disappear with the magic of my past body and paint experience.

Minimal effort to take the eye off the imperfections. Push a couple of dings out from the back side to make it look so much better.

Getting ready for the clearcoat topcoat tomorrow, weather permitting.

You're doing a great job George. They just give red paint away, don't they? :poke: :eek: Red has always been the most expensive color, even before covid decided paint shout triple in price! Are any of your neighbors bitchin about you spraying?

You know I thought that might be an issues as I have painted single stage color coats down here with hardener and that stuff floats and sticks to everything.

Had to scrape the windows on one of my spare vans here to get the overspray off with razor blades.

Something about this Clearcoat only (with activator) on a 90° day, mixed straight out of the can > no reducer, has like zero overspray.

In fact I spray it without a mask, no problem. Kind of unbelievable, and spraying outside no dirt getting in the finish either....

I don't argue with "Success" just keep moving forward.

For those that want to know, here is what a 1989 318 Roller Engine looks like inside:

Bolt down the "Spider" and it's ready for the 318 intake of choices.

Stock roller cam works well with 1406 Edelbrock 4 bbl carb.
302 factory closed chamber heads
Factory 9.2:1 compression ratio
Flat top pistons .040 down in the hole
230 factory rated horse power.

Factory Roller Valve Springs handle the roller lifters, and keep the valves in check at high rpms.
Have never floated out the valve train on the roller engines, usually run out of road first.

Looks good, Casey! What paint are you using there?

The actual factory red paint was still on there but needed touch up and clearcoat.

I sand with some 320 grit to clean up, then the aerosol Red Oxide Filler Primer Surfacer from O'Reilly's for the surface break throughs, then I found some Toyota Basecoat (Barcelona Red BTY1618) that is sort of close but has some gold metallic in it, which is ok if you blend it off and clear over it to match.

Paint is super expensive so working out of the Dupli-Color spray cans and then put a high quality clearcoat over it all for gloss and durability.

Saving most of the factory paint job with s little touch up and pushing a few minor dents out from the back side.

Basic Driver... That now shines again.

Here is the key using Red Oxide for the base for the Red Basecoat. Red covers easy over this, gray primer It takes 100 coats.

Good quality clearcoat, mix 4:1 with activator, no reducer, sprays out real easy without much overspray.

Dries real fast on a 88° day, so the dirt stays out of it.

Painting outside under a shade, coming out nice and clean, no buffing needed.

Kind of unbelievable, works great though and not breaking the bank.

There you go, there is my magic formula for my old truck ride.

Wanted to check the plugs to see how they are burning after getting some miles on the truck.

Spark Plugs are burning perfect.

Stock '89 318 roller engine with factory 302 heads.

1406 Edelbrock 600 cfm 4 bbl. carb.

Mopar HEI conversion ignition with E-Coil.

No factory onboard computer running the engine management.

Geat idle, fast starts, great performance out on the road.

Knew that was going to be a nice setup.

Tightened up the Power Steering Sector cross shaft 1/4 turn to take the play out of it.

Pumped up the new front tires (225 70r15) to 40 psi from 32 psi.

That took care of any wandering going down the Freeway at 70+ mph.

Fine tuning, dialing her in.

Simple is Good....

Sun Block for Tires, treatment. Blocks the Ultraviolet sun rays.

Helps tires to last longer in the intense sun.

One added benefit is they don't attract dust like bare rubber does.

They stay clean, even in dusty conditions. Stays black, doesn't turn brown like rubber.
