Thank you sir! Much appreciated! Those doors been hacked up took me by surprise lol. It's bad!

Another trip to U-Pull-It Parts, cut out a used door super structure with your battery powered Sawzall. Lay it on top of your's and spot weld it in.

Done Deal...

I'll probably just leave em! Unless I find some doors for cheap or free! Lol

I use a wire wheel on a bench grinder and they clean up well and quick. If you use vinegar or any other acid solution, you need to equalize the parts in baking soda or Bi-carb.

Bumper cleaned up, primed and painted back side.

Very nice work! You are making quick progress! It just dawned on me we are working on the same project at the same time ! Yours is just a long bed and alot nicer! Lol I have the same dents around the bed where the bumper has it them. I got a really bad one on the passenger side corner idk how I'm gonna get it out. It's like folded around itself and you can't access it from the back because of the bracing. I'll figure it out somehow tho. I found a rear bumper a guy is supposed to give me he said it's mint I haven't seen it yet. I had originally planned on doing a roll pan but idk now you made that bumper look really good. It's hard to see in the picture because of all the mud but here is the crease circled

Yeah, the '89 had the same gouges as yours.

20240607_181743.jpg

Working here outside in the Sunshine State with limited tools. Reached inside the box side from underneath with a 1/2" drive 12" long extension and pounded out the gouges with a 3 lb. hammer.

Got it back close, it had a tear opening it it. Cleaned It up with sand paper and filled it with "Duraglas" waterproof filler from the outside to level it back up.

Available on ebay ^^^ gallons.

Sanded, primed, and painted with aerosol can products from local parts stores.

Going to seal it from the inside underneath with catalyzed black paint.

Have been using this red oxide primer surfacer from O'Reilly's, pretty good fill and works great as a base with the red truck paint.

This "Barcelona Red" paint that I had around from another project actually matches the '89 Red pretty good for touching up.

So it was a cheep way to get a sealed finish on the repairs for now.

Got this ^ at Advance Auto Parts, think O'Reilly's has it too.

Nice work! I was looking at that duraglass for my dart. I was gonna use it for the sail panel roof joint I've read it's better than regular plastic fillers for larger repairs because it's reinforced with fiberglass. I was gonna use the all metal stuff but it's more expensive and I've read alot of reviews that it's alot harder to sand and shape.

"The Clean Out"

Dried out leaves ^^^ from Alabama:

Beats a stinking rat's nest, any day of the week. Sure glad don't have to deal with mouse nest oder on this project.

Like can happen in Minnesota where the mice get in to nest up for the cold Winters.

It's a marine access removable port, sold at boating stores and also on ebay.

That 4" access port is a common size.

Thanks! thats some inventive thinking bud! i like it! easy to pop it out and clean it again whenever it needs it!

Lots of Dodge Truck owners on YouTube are doing the heater box clean out port trick, so they don't have to totally dismantle the heater box and dash.

Finally after working with 5 other local big name parts stores, dealing with mismatched belt pairs and not available.

Napa comes through on an overnight order, first thing the next morning they had the correct dual pulley belt pairs in hand. Alt, AC Compressor, Crankshaft...Dual Pullies.

View attachment 1716239249

60 inch long, dual belts for a 35 year old dodge truck.

View attachment 1716239250

Not easy to come by, as compared to what the vehicles of today are running.

Nice find. Hardly anyone in the parts business anymore knows what a "matched set" of belts is. They just look at you after pulling two of the same number and say "they're the same". Ummmm.....no, they're not.

That old computer is going to go Bye Bye.

I have tried running with the computer unplugged and it still starts and runs now the way I have it wired.

There is one main power feed that unplugs at the Battery that powers everything in the cab: key start, idiot dash lights, head lights, turn signals and fan motor.

With that main feed plug unplugged that all goes away.

Going to try to set it up now with the main feed plugged in, and the old computer unplugged. Believe that is going to work to get it road worthy.

Really would like to rewire the whole truck to Old School from scratch. But for now just want to get it up and running reliable.

What all exactly did the original computer control anyway?

Throttle Body Injection, electronic TBI distributor, computer onboard voltage regulator that failed. "Message Center" in dash that can most certainly do without anyway.

Rigged up temporary gauges to manually monitor engine activity. So no computer needed there. Turn signals work without computer too, fortunately.

Oh that's right. I forgot it was that late a model. It's gonna be a really nice truck when you're done.

Continuing on from Post #170, wiper arm bushings rebuild.

Many thanks to @318willrun and his YouTube how to video. Explained and showed well how to assemble and get things in the right order.

Especially which side of the Wiper Arms to push the new plastic bushings in from so it does not end up azz backwards.

20240617_110001.jpg

Pushing in the new bushings with a socket and vice.

Assembled refurbished wiper arm assembly.

Back in the truck and working as it should, nice and smooth.

Preserving the old truck so it will last a long time.
