So for the first time since 1998 this car runs and drives but when I let off the gas the transmission makes a grinding noise I'm sure the clutch needs to be replaced but I was wondering what could cause the problem 1964 barracuda 318 4 speed thanks for any help

First thing I would do is make sure your fluid is fresh and at the proper level. Does it make the noise at idle? How about with the clutch pedal depressed? My guess is it might just be a bad clutch release bearing or front bearing.

I will check all of that fluid is fine it doesn't make any noise at idle. I don't think I could feel anything in the pedal either I will drive it some more today and let you know thank you
