Guns, Dogs and Blades QnA

ya know, When Bill was in office and was fixin' to ban multi round mags I bought one of those SKS things and 1400 rounds of russian hollow points. I was a waiter in college at the time and $350 for the lot seemed like more than enough for me! I still have some of those rounds but man if i ever run russian through any of my guns they get hot and jam up quick. in the SKS I can rip off 20 before things get a little weird but I can usually get all 30 out. If I use my 75 round drum with the same ammo ... forgetaboutit !!! I have harvested deer with the thing and the neatest thing lately is what I did to the stock; I can't tell ya what the chinese used for wood, it is very strange and fibrous. In 2018 I had a tree die in my back yard that turned out to be a 75 year old sassafras and the butt had tiger striped figure in it. so I had it milled and I kinda' whittled a stock out of it. My wife entered me in a company woodworking contest and we one a prize! a new dremel is all but still....
Prices sure have changed, i missed out by a few years on the deals for an AK rifle.

All I can get (or found) near me is Russian ammo. Didn't have any issues whatsoever. I got a few different varieties to try out when I went to restock my supply.

Anyone else still having trouble getting particular rounds at this point? I had to buy some NOS on gunbroker because I can not find new 340 Weatherby bullets.

When you started talking about that stock I thought you were going to say you put a plastic stock on it. I need to see some pictures of your home made rig now though, that sounds awesome. Btw, I’ve had my SKS for 12 years and can’t recall a single malfunction. Those guns are notoriously reliable so you may have an issue with your magazines.

I roll most of my center fire stuff these days.

Me too. The fluffy one is my Hemi.

Edit. From left to right... Magnum, Cuda, and Hemi. Mopar (my avatar) didn't make the pic. Probably chasing a ball somewhere.......
My Crazy FL Black Mouth, Screw Cancer. Please in no way think I don't have Respect for All Y'alls Passed Fur Missiles! Her name was Princess, after Doggie Witness Protection. She Did NOT play well with Assholes

What is a good upper barreled receiver for the money to go on a AR lower receiver? What would be a good caliber also to use? 9 mm, 7.62x39, 50 cal Beowulf?

For the money, 556. Easiest round to find in America. Cheapest parts to find and purchase.
Best war gun to own due to amount of ammunition in the home land.

A good caliber to use?
My favorite is 375.socom.
Second favorite is 6.8.
Third would be the 204.

All wildcat rounds. That is the only issue with these rounds. Difficult to find. Best if you have someone to load or you load yourself.

I laid down a 1000 lb. pig at 300 yards W/ 375 socom. Walked dead for about 40 yards.
Giant hole.
Dead.

Review: Tromix .375 SOCOM - RifleShooter
.375 SOCOM - Wikipedia

6.8 works great for deer. This is my favorite all around bullet. Designed for the military.

204 is an incredibly fast round. Really reach's out and touch's. 4000fps plus depending upon your loading. .204 Ruger Ballistics GunData.org

9mm good on ar's for close up combat.
7.62x39. Problem here is that most bullets you will find are berdan primed (mostly non-reloadable), steel cased and communist rounds. The primers are hydroscopic. Tend to corrode and also corrode and rust your barrel as well.
50 beowolf. Have not had a 1000 lb pig to shoot yet. Seems a little unruly compared to the few other big bore 15's.
Don't get me wrong, would be nice to have one. Or any of the mentioned calibers for that matter.

So I had a buddy offer me a MnP 15/22 for a price I could not say no to. I have never shot one but I will carry it when I train rifle instructors for the shooting portion of qualifying. Invariably somebody always shows up with a gun that won’t run. I use a browning Buckmark in pistol instructors class for same reason. The only thing that I am not certain I like is the blue camo on the rifle. But it is growing on me. Any of you guys have a 15/22? Are they reliable?

I have this 22lr upper that fires flawlessly
So far, I only shoot it to kill small game or to save money on ammo.

I have one, as do a bunch of buddies who shoot steel challenge. Never an issue from any of them with a combined round count of probably 15k+ through them. I run a Leupold RDS on mine and love it, fast transitions always on target.

How am I just seeing this thread for the first time?

Me waiting for the ATF to approve the Form 4 Trust for my new silencer: 9 months and 19 days. Not like I'm counting or anything

I heard paper ones are slow now that efile is running. My two form 4s, paper filed were 120 days and an efiled form 1 took 11.

Yep. It was submitted back in October 21'. eForm system went live a few months afterwards. Silencer Shop told me to hold out and don't cancel it otherwise it'll only lengthen the wait because the serial number would have to go through their system twice. Ugh

That sucks, hope you're getting close! I was gonna ask if it was worth canceling in January and efile. My FFL has withdrawn applications before with good luck, usually getting the $200 refunded too.

This is a tough subject as most folks end up very frustrated with the process. Be patient and you will get it eventually.
