Guns, Dogs and Blades QnA

hell, I don't know

That style was formed by essentially coiling a wire and beating it into a barrel. Uncommon but very cool when you can find them.

I say cut down musket because of the curve of the butt is more like a stock neck on a musket than the curve that would be on a pistol of that era. Percussion cap system show up around 1820(ish) and generally fade away in general use in favor of metal cased center fire systems by 1870 or so. I was trying to see if the lockplate indicated a modified flint system but it doesn't look like it does although the pins on the forward part of the plate and at the base of the **** may mean something. Smarter dudes than me wander here

That image you posted of the cap nipple looks like something modified as well... Hmmmmm....

I have not cleaned on it, got it about 5 weeks ago.

I would date that pre 1800 or the turn of the century.
Colt was Manufactuing paper cartridge revolvers into the civil way era.
That arm is a flintlock.
I would cherish that, if it could only tell of its adventures,

Amazon.com : Vortex Optics Diamondback Second Focal Plane Riflescopes (4-12x40, V-Plex) : Rifle Scopes : Sports & Outdoors
Another thing I just thought of is a lot of your non big box gun shops (think mom and pop) will have a rack of used scopes they have removed from trade ins. You might cruise those kind of shops in your area. They do not move a lot of used scopes so often times they get pretty flexible on cost? Don’t be afraid to make an offer that is below tag price.
Amazon.com : Vortex Optics Diamondback 4-12x40 Second Focal Plane Riflescope - Dead-Hold BDC Reticle (MOA) , Black : Rifle Scopes : Sports & Outdoors

Amazon.com : Bushnell 4.5-18x40mm AR Optics Illuminated Riflescope, AR Riflescope with Windhold Reticle, Includes 5 Turrets : Sports & Outdoors

Looking at these two, I can get a additional $60 off by putting it on amazon credit card.

Leaning towards the Vortex but the Bushnell would be very recyclable to another tool.

Anybody have any feedback on either?
I have a 3x9 Vortex Diamond back on a 22, It is Very clear for what it cost.

Thanks in advance.

Vortex Diamondback for the win. Hands down

This is the little 22 that chased me home the other day. I am going to use it during NRA rifle instructors class. We always have at least one candidate that forgets to bring a rifle or brings one that won’t run. Part of the NRA certification dictates that you as a instructor candidate must shoot and qualify to gain an instructor tab. I am not satisfied I like the blue camo but it is what it is. For sure going to do double duty on the farm as I think grandkids will likely shoot it as fast as I can load mags for them.

Buddy of mine just picked up one of the Walther .22lr M4 AR15's. Nice little rifle except for heavy trigger. All metal I think, whereas the S&W were mostly plastic. I gave him a scope to try out until he decides what he wants to put on it. The plastic flip up sights that came with it are for ****.
I want to get a dedicated .22 upper so I can run it with my NRA Match/XTC uppers. I run Geissele triggers on my ARs and customs on my Palma/1000yd bolt guns, and can NOT stand a crummy trigger. No excuse for it. Ruins everything.

Totally with ya on the trigger thing, I hate a crappy trigger. The little MnP 22 is definitely a lot of plastic! But for intended use I cannot put a scope on it so I will run the Mag Pul flip ups. They look sketchy for sure but I have yet to even shoot the dumb thing yet. I am kind of excited to shoot it tho.

I has one of these
th?id=OIP.jpg

in .357 MAX and a 10" barrel in .30 Herret.
WARNING when firing that .357 MAX in the prone position be prepared to extinguish the brush fire ignited by the muzzle flash :lol:
Great fun to shoot. Shot to shot great accuracy. My experience with it leads me to believe that though the barrels are interchangeable, the barrels following the OE barrel will have to be tuned slightly for proper function.

Forward one in the photo is the forward screw (remove them from the otehr side) and the next is probably the main spring. There may be more clues on the inside of the lock. It is interesting but I'm with Chris and wouldn't fire it.

@memike those vertical lines on the lockplate look familiar. I think thats a characteritic of a fairly widely used lockplate and may help identify the original maker.

I change my filter every 3000 rounds or yearly. Is there an advantage in having a filter that is long or a filter that is larger in diameter?

I have a Century Arms AK, just recently got it, and have only put 150 round through it. It was cheap, and so am I.
I'll assume steel case ammo since you're cheap, but how cheap ...using mil surplus (cheapest), or non-corrosive from?
  • Barnaul
  • Global Ordnance Arsenal
  • Red Army Standard
  • Vympel

Not sure if the other boxes I bought are any different, but the boxes are camo pattern. It's all that was at the local sporting goods store, I haven't been to the Scheels that's about a half hour away.
