I remember back in the day where I said to myself... I just want a classic car that I can have as a daily driver during the Summer.

Well... Here I am a few years later with 400 extra HP, 8 3/4 rear end, Heavy Duty Suspention ect ect ect...

Sometimes I still think to myself... I should have just stuck with the daily driver! :dontknow:

Your ride is bad a$$ much nicer than before but I do understand the lower maintence of a driver

my 73 340 had a small block in it with eddy heads...hughes cam..10.5 compression..eddy air gap intake...all the good bolt on...that motor is bascially running high 11s in another Duster..

pulled engine...now has 8.5 compression...J heads 1.88 intakes...eddy performer rpm intake..and eddy 600 carb with choke, still has tti headers and mopar electronic ignition....much more of a pleasure to drive...pretty much a stock cam....fire right up...idles at 650 rpm in gear...runs on cheapest gas...

My friend bought a 1970 Galaxy, he just painted, and put new rims on on. Thats it! He drives it everyday. I kind of admire that.

I've gotten so weird with my car I don't even like to drive it in the rain, takes some time to warm up and such. Not the dependable Daily driver that I started off the idea with.

Simple rering turned to indy headed roller cammed gas guzzler.

Mine had a decent running 318, body needed some work but wasn't bad by any means. Pulled the interior out to weld up a small hole in the floor. 4 years later, I've thrown $30K into it, have a very healthy 340, a way too straight car, and I'm pissed off about a little scratch. LOL.

I was going in that direction with my 72, but after getting it running and driving as a /6 car, I decided it would be a shame to tear apart a car that drives great and gets good gas mileage, so it's staying an economical cruiser.

The COOL part... ha ha... is that with all the drivetrain stuff I already bought to make it a bad@$$ V8 car I have the excuse to get a third car to use it all on. It can't go to waste now, right?

EDIT: Man, is that green Duster yours? That looks like a SOLID car. I wouldn't touch that body at all.

I knew this was gonna be a money pit when I signed on. Problem is, I don't have the money, LOL. I've managed to keep most of it fairly "backyard" and "low buck."

One big mistake I made was that the Ferd 9" limited slip got a little loose, and the ring/ pinion was always noisy. I had bought a used 3.70 "open" 3rd member, and it looked OK, so I put it in. Ran nice, but turned out it was used by a mudder or burnout specialist, and the spiders were on the verge.

Just now, and I mean just now, I got the "rebuilt" member tossed back in with new clutches in the trac-lok. It's not "done" but it's in and the lube is in it.

So sometimes "low buck" can bit back. Even so, "we" have fun.

..i know a lot of guys who insist their next project will have stock cam, compression etc.
..a friend has quite a collection of hi end cars but his favorite is a 318 driver
..nice to head to cruz night even though it's calling for rain!

Lol, all this started about 7 years ago with an '85 Ramcharger I picked up for $100. I just wanted a simple project I could tinker with and learn.

That's what a horsepower addiction will do to you!! I've seen hundreds of projects go this way simply because the owner isn't happy with...... for some reason, then he asks his buddies on FABO what they think , then the next thing you know you're waiting at the mailbox for the kit from...... seen it a million times!!!

Bottom line? Don't worry, be happy and enjoy what you got, or in this case what you've built!! It's only a car after all, and can be changed a million times over!! Geof

That's because when it comes to horsepower enough is enough, but too much is just right.

There are certain things, though, I've learned to cut off when it's drivable. I'll come back to it later with more after I've saved up parts and extra money, then I'll begin the teardown and have at it.

My Duster I am just making a decent looking driver.Later I am replacing the slant six with a 318 and a 4 speed. It will still be fun to drive and decent on gas.

Kinda, but only after it turned out to be more work than I realized. There was a lot of of 'might as well while I'm there' and 'take your time and do it right' mixed with my own meticulousness. I've slowly learned perfect is the enemy of the good on these cars. Shes going back together and will be in paint in a few months.
