Hi All. Last month I replaced my stock 340 intake with an Edelbrock Intake. I have a 650 Holley DP mounted on it (manual choke, new last year). During acceleration, the car would bog down. I went to a higher squirter (32) and it is still boggy, but not as bad. I may go to a 35. I wonder if this would resolve the issue? Also, last weekend, I went for a ride but didn't let the car warm up. Everytime I would come to a stop, it would die. It seemed to clear itself after a 1/2 hour driving. Since then, the car has had trouble starting. It won't stay running. Today I started the car and she was running pretty rough. It stalled and wouldn't start again. The fuel smell prompted me to pop the hood. There was gas sitting on the intake. I couldn't tell where it leaked from. I let the car sit for a while and tried starting it again. The engine would turn over but wouldn't catch. I pumped the accelerator a few times, but nothing and no fuel smell or leak. Thinking I ran out of gas now (because my fuel sending unit is shot), I put some in. I pumped the accelerator a few more times and tried starting the car. Again, nothing and no fuel smell or leak either (you think you would smell some fuel). The fuel filter appears fine. Could the problem be the ballast resistor, a float issue perhaps, dirt in the carb? I appreciate any help you can provide. I apologise if similar problems have been responded to in previous threads. Thank you!

If the car runs at all, it is not likely to be the ignition system, unless the coil is going bad or there are bad connections.

Your symptoms are all over the place, indicating a changing problem.

Sent you a PM.

did it ever run good with the new carb?first thing check float level until it just dribbles out of the sight hole.

I pulled the plugs today and the problem is clearly that she is getting too much fuel. I leaned the carb out completely this evening and no change.

I'm planning to do the "float" thing tomorrow. What I don't understand is why now. The car was running perfectly fine and then, "poof!" I will keep you all posted. Thanx for the advice.

Dont forget to check for debris -I know the prospect of disassembly isnt fun. Check and blow out those passages. I had a new Edelbrock that ran like junk. Disassebled it and found machine metal. Ya never know.

When I changed intake, i had some hesitation issues. I ended up changing the squirters and that seemed to fix the problem. It ran fine for almost 2 months. Last week I took it out for a ride without letting it warm up too long. During acceleration, there was a "pop" noise that came from underneath the hood. I didn't think much of it. After doing some research and getting some great info from many of the great people on this site, I've decided that tomorrow I will check for debris and replace the power valves. I believe this will solve my problem. I will keep you all posted. Thank you all for all the advice!

And the culprit was....? Dirt in the bowl. Good call Fratzog! Thanks!

When I read that I thought power valve. Did you change those?

Look also for blown off vacuum lines. Sometimes it will blow off a vacuum line rather than rupture the power valve. Whichever it can do the easiest, it will.

I don't see anything in your posts about manifold vac , are you sure you have the right power valve's in it ? mine were 6.5 and fine for 3 years but engine wear dropped the vac at idle a little and they became too big causing idle problems at the lights and a rich condition , replaced with the 3.5s that come in the quick kit and they were too small causing it to lag at mid throttle when they opened late , get a vac guage and see what you actually need .

Always Check the float level and the bowl is not dirty, that would be first suspect. Also check your coil as well. I had an issue with my dart right after I installed my MSD distributor and a new edelbrock carb. It drove me nuts for a few hours until I realized not only were the floats off but also my coil was intermittently going out. With the floats adjusted and a new coil all was fine. The coil was crapping out when it warmed up. It would crap out and then go back to normal after a few min of cooling off. So it's worth a look

A lot of coil issues can mask themselves as either a carb issue or timing issue.
I've seen a lot of those when a coil starts to go south

Thx Rusty. Vacuum lines are good. I've been away from this stuff so long. I've forgotten how many things on a carb can make a vehicle run poorly if not dealt with properly

Thx moparman. Checking for dirt should have been the first thing to check. I never thought to check the coil, though. I will have to add that to the list of things to check going forward.

No problem, the coil is definately worth the look.......
