Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, what did you figure out to be the problem?

Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, what did you figure out to be the problem?

It has not done it since replacing the coils & cam sensor. I would still like to get in one more long ride before calling it fixed.

I'm not understanding why a failure of that sort would not generate a fairly obvious trouble code.

Even if Tin had it set up to read the trouble codes a camshaft sensor failure will not usually generate one until it gets to the point it will not start or takes a very long crank time before it starts. I have had a few in the past with similar symptoms that never generated a code.

Tincup,

My 33 did similar things "early on", running Hot Wire Harness with a Grand Cherokee Computer, 08 1500 5.7/545rfe.
Talking with "several others", and received most of the same responses. A friend that is a Mopar Tech at a local dealership asked about grounds. Of course I had the engine grounded to the chassis. His response,"Jim, go stupid with grounds, too many is not enough".

Stupid was: Eng to Chassis, Eng to Trans, Eng to body, trans to body, trans to chassis, no problems since. ?????????

Now, I have a question for you. You added a 2" Mini-Tub, how much wheel/tire did you go with, offset on wheel? I have 17x8's with a 3.25 backspacing and 225R50-17 Nitto Tires on all 4 corners. Getting very close to "on the road" but thinking the 400/450hp is going to want a lil more tire.

Thanks Jim,

I think I have pretty good grounds, but I'll double check. As for the tire, in the rear I'm running a 285-40-18 ( almost 12" wide ) and there is still a little room left. It all depends on how low your car is, mine is very low, if your is higher, you might fit a little more. My rim is 18 x 10 with 6" bs.

OK, I think I figured out my problem, my ignition uses GM keys, so all I have to do is bring it in for the recall....;-)

But on a serious note, I took the dart for a 2 1/2hr ride today (157mi) and it never died. The only unknown is the temp, it was only about 60 today, so for now, I calling it's fixed.
Thanks for all your help...

The warm weather is starting to roll back in, so we will see if I fixed my problem from last year. Here is a list of things I changed from last year,

New fuel pump
New fuel filter
New fuel pump relay
grounded fuel tank to chassis
New Cam position sensor
New crank position sensor
New plugs
New coils
Insulated fuel line

I have a new ECU that I have not put in yet, I'm waiting to see what happens. If it dies again, it will be for sale......

Sure hope so. You've got an awesome build there, it would be too bad to waste a bunch of time on a problem instead of "having fun."

I hear ya Tin, go through all the work and the thing cant make it to the next town. Light a match to it!

Latest update.....Just came back from Goodguy's in springfield, ma. 2.5 hour trip, 140 miles, non stop at 70mph, no issues. Temperature was a little cooler than I would have liked 75 -80deg. I'm not ready to call it fixed yet, but things are looking better....
